Blue Jays get shut out in New York 5-0
The Blue Jays have gone into New York and taken the first 3 games of the 4 game set. That is of course including yesterdays double header which saw over 8 hours of game time. Today going for the sweep the Blue Jays sent out red hot R.A. Dickey. Dickey has recorded 7 wins in his last 10 outings. The other 3 starts were he did not pick up the win the Blue Jays still did. So the team is 10-0 in his last 10 starts. The Yankees Masahiro Tanaka who is 11-6 and picked up a complete game victory over the Jays his last time out.
The Yankees started to threaten in the 2nd inning. Brian McCann led off the inning with a walk. Alex Rodriguez hit a single a single to center field. Chase Headley drew a walk to load up the bases with no outs. Dustin Ackley and Didi Gregorius hit back to back sacrifice flies to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.
In the 4th inning Chase Headley picked up a two out single to center field. He was quickly cashed in on a two run home run by Dustin Ackley.
The game was pretty quiet until the 8th inning when Carlos Beltran hit a single and was cashed in on an Alex Rodriguex Double.
Game Notes:
- Edwin Encarnacion was given a day off to help heal up his nagging hand injury. With a lead in the AL East I would expect to see a few more of these days before the post season starts.
- The lineup feels less impactful without Troy Tulowitzki and Edwin Encarnacion in it. While Tulo has not really hit his full stride he did add a an air of danger to the middle of the lineup.
- Masahiro Tanaka seems to have the Blue Jays figured out. He went 7 inning today not allowing a single run. This after he pitched a complete game in Toronto to beat the Blue Jays in his last outing.
- The Blue Jays were shut out for just the 5th time this season. The good news is they took 3 out of 4 in New York and hold and 3 and a half game lead.
