Buffalo Bisons vs Syracuse Chiefs (Loss 2-6)

Fan appreciation night ended in disappointment as the Bisons just could not hold the Chiefs in the late innings.  This concluded the home schedule for the Herds season.  Donn Roach pitched a solid 6 innings as he was able to scatter 6 hits and a pair of walks.  Roach would not allow a run through out his start.  Roach gave way to Ben Rowen in the 7th.  Rowen got pounced on by the Chiefs as he gave up 4 hits that were good for 4 runs between the 7th and 8th inning.  Chad Girodo would come on after 1 out in the 8th and have his own troubles as he allowed another 2 runs on 3 hits.  Steve Delabar would come on to shut things down in the 9th but the damage had already been done and the Herd was stuck at a 2-6 deficit.  Former farm hand Darin Mastroianni was a thorn in the pitching staffs side all game.  He finished the night with going 3-5 with a double, a run scored, and 4 RBI’s.

On offense the Bisons collected 11 hits but just we not able to bring anyone all the way around.  The Bisons were a couple timely hits away from contending in this one as the left 11 runners on base.  Alex Hansen was able to break through and collect an RBI on his 2-4 night.  He also scored on a Ryan Schimpf single.  Schimpf and Hanson collected the lone RBI’s in the 5th and 8th inning.  A good night of pitching on the Chiefs side helped them work out of trouble and spoiled the final home game of the season for the Herd.

Line of the game

Darin Mastroianni of the Chiefs 3-5 with a double, a run scored, and 4 RBI’s

New Hampshire Fisher Cats vs Portland Sea Dogs (Loss 3-4)

A night of catch up for the Cats fell just short as they were not able to complete the comeback in the 10th.  A solid team effort overall but the Sea Dogs were just a touch better Wednesday.  Taylor Cole once again pitched well as he threw 6.1 innings and allowed only 2 runs.  He was able to strike out an impressive 6 batters through his work and allowed only 5 hits and 2 walks.  Dustin Antolin would allow a run after coming in for Cole in the 7th.  Antolin settled in and pitched well through the 8th.  Will Browning would come on in the 9th and pitched a shut out inning.  With the game still tied the game moved into the 10th where Portland got to Browning and scored a run to take the 4-3 lead and the win after retiring the Cats bats in the bottom of the inning.

Shane Opitz tied the game up in the 9th inning with a 2 run homer in a clutch at bat to tie the game up at 3.  Until the home run in the 9th Jorge Flores had recorded the only RBI on a single in the 2nd inning.  The Cats bats were hitting but not at opportune moments.  They were able to collect 10 hits and 5 walks but were unable to bring in the bulk.  They only went 1-8 with runners in scoring position Wednesday.  That hurts not being able to bring those runners home and was the Cats undoing in this one.

Line of the game

Shane Opitz 2-4 with the 2 run homer that tied the game

Dunedin Blue Jays vs Tampa Yankees

Game 1 (Win 2-0)

The matinee game was dominated by pitching on both sides.  Jonathan Holder and Shane Dawson went toe to toe in this one.  Both of them went the distance but Holder blinked in the 5th inning.  Jorge Saez took a Holder pitch for a ride as he popped a 2 run homer.  This would be all the offense that Dawson would need to complete the win.  Dawson pitched incredibly as he held the Yankees to 1 hit through his 7 innings of work.  The one hit would be the lone base runner for the for the Yanks as Dawson would not allow a walk and struck out 4.

Line of the game

Shane Dawson 7 IP, 1 hit, 0 walks, 0 runs, 4 strikeouts

Game 2 (Win 3-1)

Another well pitched ball game for the D-Jays would be enough to win this one.  Jeremy Gabryszwski got things rolling in this one and would go onto pitch 5 innings and only allow 1 run.  He would also record 2 walks and 4 strikeouts as he kept the Yankees bats quiet.  Arik Sikula came on in the 6th and slammed the door shut on the Yanks.  He did not allow a hit and recorded his 5th save of the season.  Boomer Collins would collect the lone RBI for the D-Jays on a single.  The rest of the runs were scored off of Yankees issues.

Line of the game

Jeremy Gabryszwski 5 IP, 4 hit, 2 walks, 1 runs, 4 strikeouts

Lansing Lugnuts vs Great Lakes Loons (Loss 4-7)

Marcus Stroman makes his return to professional baseball as he gets the ball for his first rehab start.  Stroman was nothing short of spectacular and he dominated the Loons for 4.2 innings.  He did not allow a hit and recorded 7 strikeouts.  That is just amazing for a guy that has been recovering from an ACL injury.  Veteran Blue Jays Pat Hentgen was in attendance to monitor Stroman and needless to say he was very impressed.  CBCSports.com quotes Hentgen saying “He back-doored his breaking ball to lefties, he threw some good changeups.  He pulled a couple of fastballs, but other than that I thought he threw really well.  I didn’t think he favored his knee at all. I thought overall he looked good.”  Stroman threw 69 pitches and 44 of them were for strikes.  He will be starting in Buffalo for the Bisons in the coming days where he will start the game.  To say Stroman is excited and pumped up would be an understatement.  Just see the below tweet from him.

After the Stroman excitement faded upon his exit the Loons were ready to stomp out the fun that we were having.  The Loons would rally in the 9th for 7 runs off of Carlos Ramirez.  The Loons would only need 5 hits on top of a pair of walks to bury the Lugnuts.  Richard Urena hit a 2 run homer in this one on a 2-5 night.  He would be the only Lugnut with a multi hit game.

Line of the game

Marcus Stroman 4.2 IP, 0 hit, 1 walks, 0 runs, 7 strikeouts
