Buffalo Bisons @ Gwinnett Braves (Win 2-0)

Scott Copeland shows why he should still be considered a solid pitcher in the Jay’s now open prospect list.  Pitching a stellar 7 innings on Sunday allowed the Bisons to take one from the Braves.  Copeland scattered 8 hits and only walked 1 batter.  This kept the Braves being able to put the pieces together to score runs off of Copeland even though he only struck out 1 batter.  Ben Rawdon recorded a hold as he pitched a scoreless inning.  Joba Chamberlin came on in the 9th to record his second save for the Bison’s.  A solid pitching performance paved the way to victory in this game.

Offensively the Herd was able to muster just enough pop to squeeze in 2 runs.  The Bisons only collected 7 hits compared to the Braves 9 hits but were able to come up with a few timely hits.  Alex Hanson collected the only true RBI of the game as he plated Ezequiel Carrera in the 4th inning.  The other RBI was collected by Jonathan Diaz as he walked in the 7th inning.  Matt Hague continues to impress as he collected his 50th multi-hit game and is sitting at a cool .349 batting average for the Bisons.  He ended the day with a 2-4  performance.  Ty Kelly also collected a pair of hits and a run scored in the Herd’s winning effort.

Line of the game

Scott Copeland 7 innings pitched, 8 hits, 0 earned runs, 1 walk, 1 strike out

New Hampshire Fisher Cats @ Bowie Baysox (Loss 0-8)

The Fisher Cats were wishing that they had a day of rest this Sunday instead they got destroyed by the Bay Sox.  The Cats just could not catch a break as they were beat by solid all around play by the Bay Sox.  Pitching for the Cats was Scott Barnes who pitched decent for 5 innings.  He would end up giving up 3 earned runs (1 un-earned) while striking out 5 but battled through those 6 innings.  John Anderson came on and had a really rough inning as he surrendered 3 runs in the inning.  Luis Perez would come on in the 8th and give up a home run to Quincy Latimore which would be the icing on the cake for the Bay Sox.

On the other side of the ball the Cats just could not figure out the Bay Sox pitchers.  Nick Addition perplexed Cat hitters as he went on to pitch 6 innings and only allow 3 hits and struck out 5.  The last 3 innings the Bay Sox bullpen continued to shut down the Fisher Cats and only allowed 1 more hit the rest of the game.  The entire Bay Sox pitching staff did not allow a walk and only allowed the 4 hits.

Dunedin Blue Jays vs Brevard County Manatees (Win 7-6)

A rough start for Jeremy Gabryszwski got the D-Jay’s off to a bad start but this game became a battle right from the start.  Gabryszwski gave up 5 runs over the first 5 innings.  4 of those runs being earned runs as he struck out 5 batters also and only walked 1 batter.  The offense kept the D-Jay’s in this game through out but we will get to that.  Matt Dermody would come on in relief and hold off the Manatees for 2 innings and kept the game in a dead lock.  Chris Smith allowed a solo home run to Jose Pena which was his second one of the game to give the Manatees the lead in the 8th.  Smith would pitch the 9th also and eventually pick up the win.

The Slugfest was officially on and the D-Jay’s followed suit.  The collected 3 home runs in the early part of the game.  J.D. Davis cracked a 2 run homer in the first inning to get the D-Jay’s in the swing of things.  Eventually Derrick Loveless and Andy Fermin popped solo home run each in the 4th inning.  Anthony Alford also collected 4 hits in 5 at bats and was only a home run short of the cycle.  He also collected 2 RBI’s which included the walk off double to score Jorge Saez in the 9th.

Line of the game

Anthony Alford 4-5 with a double, a triple, a run scored, and 2 RBIs

More from Toronto Blue Jays Prospects

Chase Mallard had a really rough night as he allowed 4 runs in the first inning.  He would settle down to only lose it again in the 5th inning to allow another 2 runs.  He did battle but was bruised up by Snappers hitters.  His final line was 5 innings, 10 hits, 6 earned runs, a walk, and a strike out.  Things did not get much better as the now red hot Snappers hitters raked in another 3 runs against the bullpen.  The Snappers hitters collected a total 14 hits off the Lugnuts which included 7 extra base hits.

The offense showed up but just had to big of a mountain to climb to stay in this one.  The Lugnuts collected 11 hits of their own but could not manage to hit them in.  Leaving 7 runners on base and batting only 2-9 with runners in scoring position was the down fall.  Chris Carlson and Juan Kelly provided 3 hits and an RBI each.  Kelly provided the pop as he hit his 3rd homer of the season.  The Lugnuts offense just was not enough to catch the Snappers.

Line of the game

Chris Carlson 3-5 with a triple, 2 runs scored, and an RBI

More from Toronto Blue Jays Prospects

Jonathan Harris got off on the wrong foot in this one but was able to find things after he battled out of the first inning.  After allowing 4 earned runs in the first he would go onto finish with a line of 4 innings pitched, 4 earned runs, 5 hits, 3 walks, and a strike out.  Sean Ratcliffe would come on for the 5th inning and got lit up for 2 runs (1 earned run).  Things finally settled down as the ball was handed to Brandon Hinkle and Josh Degraaf for the remaining 4 innings.  They combined to not allow a run and strike out 3.  This left things open for a comeback but the C’s just could not bring the thunder at the plate.

The Canadians were able to score 3 runs on 7 hits but just could not keep pace with the Aqua Sox.  Ryan Hissey collected the only multi hit performance as he collected 2 hits along with a run scored and an RBI.  Andrew Guillotte and Sean Hurley collected a double each for the only extra base hits of the game for the C’s.  Guillotte also scored 2 times.

Line of the game

Brandon Hinkle 2 innings pitched, 1 hit, 0 earned runs, 1 walk, 2 strike outs
