Blue Jays Minor League Recap: June 12, 2015

The Toronto Blue Jays minor league system went 2-for-4 and a Jays top prospect has put his season back on track with a multi-home run game.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats (28-32/5th place/7.5GB)

Fisher Cats won 14-1

Joel Pineiro (W 2-2, 4.50ERA) allowed one run over 7 innings as the Fisher Cats bats came alive.

Dalton Pompey had a big game, a break out game maybe, with 2 home runs and drove in 4 runs. The promising CF has really turned things around since his demotion to the Fisher Cats, collecting 10 hits in 6 games.

Ryan Schimpf had a pretty good game as well. He went 4-for-6 with two doubles, a HR (6), and drove in 3 RBI (17). Jon Berti back from a DL stint went 3-for-6.

Dwight Smith Jr. had a good day at the plate after spinning his tires in June (.129 BA). Smith was batting in the 7th spot and went 2-for-3, 4R, 2 doubles (13), and 2 BB.

To round out the line-up the 8th and 9th hitter, Pierce Rankin and Shane Opitz, also collected 2 hits a piece. Rankin hit his 3rd home run and drove in 3 runs.

Lansing Lugnuts (36-25/1st place)

Game 1: Loss 9-1

Everything seemed to be going splendidly while Sean Reid-Foley was on the bump, but the wheels fell off once he left the game. Reid-Foley allowed one run on 3 hits, all while walking 5 and striking out 7.

Michel Kraft (L 0-1, 8.10ERA) gave up 6 runs in his one inning of work.

At the plate Richard Urena‘s solo home run (10) in the 6th inning accounted for all of Lansing’s runs. Tim Locastro collected 2 hits and Jason Leblebijian hit his first double.

Game 2: Won 2-0

Chase De Jong (W 6-4, 3.88 ERA) threw 7 shutout innings, 2BB, and 10K. That’s six solid outing in a row for Chase.

Gunnar Heidt went 1-for-3, drove in the club’s only 2 runs off Eric Peterson in the 8th inning. D.J. Davis, Richard Urena, Tim Locastro, and Josh Almonte each collected hits for the Lugnuts.
