The Jays minor league system had a couple promising arms on the bump last night. One of them faired much better than the rest and continues to build on his impressive 2015 resume.

Buffalo Bisons (26-27, 4th 2.5GB)

Bisons were shut out 3-0, despite out hitting the Indians 8-7.

Daniel Norris (L 1-4, 3.31 ERA) looked good, but took the loss. The young left-hander consistently controlled his secondary pitches, getting a lot of swing and misses and located down in the zone. He missed on a couple but they usually missed high out of the zone. Toronto’s Top Prospect worked his low to mid-90’s fastball off his breaking ball, freezing several Indians.

Unfortunately, the offence let Norris down. He pitched well enough to win this one, needing only 97 pitches to make it through 7 innings. He throw over 70% of his pitches for strikes, but a lot of those were swings out of the zone on very good breaking balls.

Norris’ line: 7.0IP, 7H, 3R, BB, 8K, HR, WP, 7/5 GO/AO.

The Bisons bats couldn’t string together their hits and were 1-for-7 with RISP. Andy Burns, Dalton Pompey, and Sean Ochinko each collected 2 hits. Andy Burns continues to look good as he played good defence at the hot corner, and stole a base.

Pomepy’s knee didn’t look like it was bothering him at the plate, around the bases (even though he was caught stealing), or in the field. He legged out an infield single in the 4th, but ran in an out getting picked off.
