2015 Stock Watch: Week 2

Dunedin Blue Jays
The D-Jays went 2-4 with series loss to Daytona and Brevard County. They split Wednesday’s Double-Header with Daytona and won both their games by scoring 6 runs. The D-Jays are 5th in the Florida State League North Division with a 7-9 record.
At the plate the D-Jays haven’t been hitting too much with the second lowest batting average in the division at .230, RBI (47), and hits (121). They are last in taking walks (35) so that will need to change.
On the mound the have been middle of the pack with one exception…..WHIP. The D-Jays have the worse WHIP in the FSL with a 1.38. The bullpen has done an exceptional job of closing games out and they led the league with 6 saves.

Who’s Hot- Cold last week, but Roemon Fields has turned it on. His current stats aren’t pretty, but Fields has hit .348/.385/.478 with 8 hits, 3 doubles, 4 RBI, 5SB (he has stolen 3rd 3x this week), 2 walks and 3 strike outs.
Who’s Cold- SS Emilio Guerrero has 3 hits his last 5 games and is hitting .063 this week.
Pitchers
Who’s Hot- LHP Jayson Aquino made one start this week and it was a good one. He went 5.2IP, 5H, R, 2BB, 2K and managed a 52 game score. He got 12 ground ball outs and because of that he had 2 double plays turned behind him.

Who’s Cold- Luis Santos didn’t make it out of the 3rd inning in his last start. He gave up 5 runs on 6 hits, one walk, and 2 strike outs. He allowed two long balls in the game and has now allowed 5 in the past 11.1IP.
Lansing Lugnuts
The Lugnuts are in first place with an 11-5 record after two series wins over Dayton and Fort Wayne. They were 4-2 in week 2.
At the plate Lansing have set the base paths on fire and are leading the Midwest with 27 stolen bases. The team also sits third in hits (136), HR (7), and RBI (68). This past week they outscored their opponents 38 to 30.
On the mound the Lugnuts had a good week…for the most part.. They collected a shut out and held the other team to 3-runs or less three times; unfortunately, they had two game in which they allowed 9 runs.

Hitters
Who’s Hot- Despite only playing 3-games the highly anticipated Anthony Alford went 5-for-14 with 3 doubles, 2RBI, a walk and 5 strike outs. What you don’t see in the stat line in his overall impact.
Honourable mention- Ryan McBroom, who hit .389/.520/.556 with 7 hits, 5RBI, 4BB and 2K in 6 games this week.

Who’s Cold- Gunnar Heidt struggled in 4 games with a hit and 4 strike outs. He is hitting .143 in the past 10 games.
Pitchers
Who’s Hot- Shane Dawson, a good Canadian boy, had another solid startfor the Lugnuts. He went 5 innings again, but this time he only allowed one hit after two straight starters of allowing two hits a piece. Dawson also didn’t issue a walk and struck out 7. In 3 starts he owns a 2.66FIP, 1.80 ERA, 11.40 K/9 and 2.40 BB/9.
Who’s Cold- Chase Mallard was roughed up a bit in his last start (3.1IP, 9H, 5ER, and 4K), but even good pitchers have bad starts. Mallard has only walked one batter in 14.1IP, but has to cut down the hits allowed (1.60 WHIP).
