Every Friday I will be checking in on some of our Top Prospects. Stock Watch is designed to provide updates for Blue Jays fans that pay attention to the state of the Jays farm system with an eye a the franchises future stars. We’ll look at who is hot, who is moving up/down, and who is cold.

We are a week into the 2015 season and we’ve already seen some early surprises, but before we get too excite, remember that little thing about small sample sizes.

Buffalo Bisons

The Herd has a .500 record through the first 6 games, with 2 games postponed due to wind and power outage. Speaking of power outages, the Bisons are homer-less. The pitching staff is a big reason for the Bisons record, having pitched 2-0 shutouts in all 3 games.

Hitter

Who’s Hot– SS Ryan Goins actually leads the team with 7 hits and is tie with 3 RBI. He is hitting .350/.333/.400 with a 5 game hit streak to start the year. Goins still swings too much and has yet to draw a walk, but has 5 strikeouts.

Who’s Cold–  SS Ryan Goins double-play partner, IF Jonathan Diaz, has one hit in his first 12 AB with a 2 walks and 3 strike outs. Diaz isn’t known for his bat, so it comes as no surprise. Caleb Gindl almost got this honour, but his triple and five walks made my mind up on Diaz.

Pitcher

Who’s HotScott Copeland allowed one hit, a walk, and three strikeouts in his first outing of the season. He was nearly perfect through 7 innings, but ended up with a big fat ND for his efforts

Who’s ColdChad Jenkins has an ERA of 13.50 after giving up 4 runs on 6 hits against the Pawtucket Red Sox. Chadwick didn’t have in the spring and it looks as though he is still struggling to find ‘it’.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats

The Fisher Cats opened the season to a 3-1 series victory over New Britain and followed that up by taking 2 out of 3 against Reading. NH pitching staff pitched two shut outs and hold a 5-2 record. The Fisher Cats find themselves in first place, hoping to keep it going as they prepare to face New Britain, this time at their house.

Hitters

Who’s Hot- OF Matt Newman has 7 hits, a double, a triple, a home run, 4 RBI and 3:4 BB:K. Matt earned his team the victory with a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 10th.

Who’s Cold- this won’t last long, but 2B Jon Berti is cold to start the year. Berti, is 2-for-12 , with a walk and 2 stirke outs

Pitchers

Who’s Hot- Matt Boyd has made two starts and owns a record of 0-1 with a 0.00ERA in 9.1IP. He has walked 4 and struck out 18 strike outs, good for 17.36 K/9. Boyd has looked really good in the early goings.

Who’s Cold…..the other team’s hitters. NH pitchers have already pitched two shut outs and have three wins decided by one run.
