Dwight Smith Jr. impresses in limited duty

A couple high ceiling/high profile Blue Jays prospects made the Arizona Fall League All-Star team, while others like Sean Ochinko, Dwight Smith Jr. and Arik Sikula continue impress in limited duty.

Some are getting more playing time than others and some are doing better than others. This is a unique time of year where some fringe players can swing the pendulum in their favour. So it is time to see how our players have done over the past week and a bit.

Liga Mexicana del Pacifico

Venados de Mazatlan

2B Ryan Schimpf continues to do well in Mexico, batting .295/.367/.449 with 3HR and 10 RBI. On the down side he has struck out 22 times in 20 games, while only walking 9 times.

Naranjeros de Hermosillo

SS Jorge Flores was hitting .258/.343/.323 two weeks ago, but turned it around last week and is now hitting .306/.342/.444 with 11 hits, 2 walks and 7 strikeouts in his past 10 games.

Bravos de Margarita

3B Andy Burns has not appeared in a game since October 22nd.

RHP Casey Lawrence took the lost in his only start last week. He went 6 innings, which was a complete game, allowed 7 hits, one earned run, 2HR,  no walks, and 5 strike outs. He now has a record of 0-2, 3.10ERA in 4 starts.

Tiburones de La Guaira

RP Gregory Infante now has 3 saves in 8 appearances this fall. Infante has struck out 11 batters in 10.1IP and has only walked 4.

Liga de Beisbol Dominicano

Toros del Este

1B Matt Hague only appeared in 3 games last week, going 4-for-10 with 3RBI. This doubles machine still hasn’t hit a double this fall. In 10GP, Hague is hitting .300/.378/.300 with no extra base hits and 11 RBI.

Gigantes del Cibao

INF Jonathan Diaz has been hitting very well this fall. Diaz has collected 6 hits last week in 6 games. He is now hitting .355/.459/.355 in his past 10 games with no extra base hits and 4 walks and 9 strikeouts.

Aguilas Cibaenas

3B Andy Fermin hasn’t played been able to get regular at-bats. Appearing in only 3 games with 5 AB.

Tigres del Licey

INF Emilio Guerrero is hitting .500 in 2GP, but has not played since October 22nd.

Leones del Escogido

RP Ryan Tepera had two good outings and poor outing last week. That poor outing has ballooned his ERA to 9.64 from 3.38. He took his first loss of the fall in this outing. He allowed 3 hits over 0.2IP while allowing 4ER. Tepera has appeared in 6 games, pitched 4.2 innings and has allowed runs in 2 of his appearances.

LHP Richard Bleier made one start this week and pitched to a line of 4.0IP, 2H, 2R, 2BB, 2K, and a .50 GO/AO. He owns a 1-1, 6.10ERA this fall.

Arizona Fall League

Mesa Solar Sox

2B Jon Berti appeared in 3 games this week, going 1-for-14 with 4 strikeouts. Berti is now hitting .190/.306/.262 this fall.

C Sean Ochinko has made the most of his limited playing time. He played two games last week and collected 3 hits, a double and 3 RBI. Sean has hit .367/.394/.600 with 11 hits, a home run, and 10RBI in 9 games.

CF Dalton Pompey  has hit .294/.379/.451 in 13 games. He appeared in 4 games last week, collecting his in each game. He went 8-for-22 in that span, with his second RBI of the fall and 4 stolen bases.  

LF/2B Dwight Smith Jr. has been on fire this fall. He collected 7 hits in his 3 games last week and is hitting .393/.452/.500 with 5 RBI, 3SB, 2BB, and 3K, while trying out a new position.

LHP Sean Nolin made one start last week and collected the win. Sean went 5.0 innings, of shutout baseball. He allowed 2 hits, walked a batter and struck out a batter. His record is now 2-1 with a 4.05 ERA, 5BB, and 14K in 13.1IP.

RHP Roberto Osuna hasn’t pitched since October 25th.

RHP Blake McFarland made 2 appearances last week and is sporting a perfect 0.00ERA. Last week, he pitched 3.0IP, walked 2 and struck out 4.  He now has 10K in 9.2IP this fall.

RHP Arik Sikula surrended his first fall runs on Halloween. He allowed 2 runs (HR) on 3 hits over one inning of work. This has been the only blemish on an otherwise impressive fall.
