Blue Jays Morning Brew: Hiring, Free Agent Targets & Voting
Good Morning. Wipe the sleep from your eyes because we’ve brewed up a fresh pot of Blue Jays goodness to start your day. Here’s your Blue Jays Morning Brew.
Since the season has ended, it has been slightly quite in Blue Jays Land. Let’s see what we have found, though.
Bob Elliott sat down with the former mail opener now GM, Alex Anthopoulos to ask about the 2014 season and beyond. What stood out to me is the love AA has for John Gibbons. He is firmly in the corner of the affable Texan. He really likes how Gibby handles any issues that come up with players slacking or what have you. Really? Does that include hustle? Just wondering.
For The Sun, Bob Elliott proposes some interesting ideas. He suggests that the Oriorles vs Tigers series may have some potential free agent targets for the Blue Jays. Elliott mentions Torii Hunter as a possibility. And, apparently, the Blue Jays may consider it. They tried to get Hunter 2 years ago. They settled for Melky Cabrera. Both are free agents once again. Hunter is 39. how much longer can he continue producing? Could the Blue Jays use that in negotiations? I hope it never even comes up because Melky is being brought back. That is the better option. Elliott also mentions Victor Martinez, J.J. Hardy and Andrew Miller. This time of year just lends itself to dreaming, doesn’t it?
And, for a bit of awesome, check out the Blue Jays GIFS of the season over at Blue Jay Hunter. There are some pretty entertaining ones. From Munenori Kawasaki trying out the knuckleball to Dalton Pompey sliding to Kevin Pillar ‘Superman diving into home.
Finally, there are still a couple days left to vote for Jose Bautista as this year’s Hank Aaron Award recipient. the award is given to the top offensive player in each league.
