Vancouver Canadians Drop Game One

Vancouver Canadians: Class A Short

After sweeping the Spokane Indians in the last series of the season and then sweeping them again in a best 2 out 3 playoff series, the Vancouver Canadians are riding high. Entering the first game of the North West League Championship series against the Hillsboro Hops, the Canadians had won their previous 6 games and 10 of their past 11.

The Hops took game one, 7-5.

Roemon Fields (@Roemon206) got things going quickly for the C’s in the bottom of the first with a double. He would score on a Franklin Barreto single, 1-0. A failed pickoff attempt and a passed ball would allow Barreto to score, 2-0. A single off the bat of Richard Urena would score Chris Carlson from second.

In the bottom of the 2nd, Ryan McBroom (@R_Broom) stepped up the plate with two on and delivered a 2-run single. With the C’s jumping out to an early 5-0 lead after 2 innings, it looked like the they were going to run away with it.

Not so fast.

The Hops erased the 5 run lead by scoring 4 runs in the top of the 3rd, thanks to a single, a double, a single, and a home run. They would score 2 in the 6th to take the lead and would add an insurance run in the 7th to make it a 7-5 final.
