It looks like there will be some movement by Alex Anthopoulos after all. He managed to sneak in one deal before the August 31 Waiver Deadline. The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired OF John Mayberry Jr from the Phillies for 3B Gustavo Pierre.
So, what are the Blue Jays getting? Why make this deal? Well, Jon Mororsi tells us:
The team control is the most important part of the deal, but if you are interested, here’s what he’ll bring to the field:
After a solid 2011 season, Mayberry Jr has seen his production tail off a bit. He has managed to get in to only 63 games this season. According to CBSSports.com, he’s been out since July 21 with an inflamed wrist. he was on a rehab assignment when the news broke.
The Blue Jays will send Gustavo Pierre to Philadelphia. The 22 year old is hitting just .235 between Dunedin and (his recent promotion) AA New Hampshire.
