Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Recap: D-Jays win on three hits

Andy LaRoche drives in 5 RBI with a double and home run, Kevin Pillar hits two doubles, Dalton Pompey triples, Dwight Smith Jr. extends his hitting streak, D-Jays win despite being 3-hit, and Lugnuts are 1-hit.

Buffalo Bisons (52-53)

The Bisons win 9-7. The Bisons were able hold off Lehigh Valley’s late inning charge and move within a game of .500. A.J. Jimenez scored Kevin Pillar in the bottom of the 1st to tie the game up at 1-1. The Bisons scored 2 in the bottom of the 3rd on Brad Glenn‘s 6th home run, a 2-run shot to left field to score A.J. Jimenez. Buffalo was back at it in the 4th a 2-run double off the bat of Andy LaRoche to score Kevin Nolan and Jared Goedert, and a Darin Mastroianni sac fly to cash in LaRoche.

Up 6-4, the Bisons tacked on 3 insurance run in the bottom of the 7th. Nolan singled and moved to 3rd on two wild pitches. Goedert walked and LaRoche cleared the bases with a 3-run shot to left field. The runs came in handy as the IronPigs scored one in the 8th and two in the 9th.

The Fisher Cats win 5-3. Matt Newman put NH up 1-0 in with a sac fly in the 1st to score Dalton Pompey, who hit his 2nd triple at Double-A.  Matt Newman was at it again in the 4th with a double and was later cashed in when Harrisburg’s James Simmons uncorked a wild pitch. NH scored 3 in the 5th on a K.C. Hobson double to cash in Derrick Chung, Jon Berti single to drive in Hobson and Jorge Flores.

Casey Lawrence won his 7th by providing the Fisher Cats with 8 strong innings and Mickey Storey came on in the 9th for his 1st save.

The D-Jays win 2-1 off a strong Ben White pitching performance.  Gustavo Pierre got the D-Jays on the board with his 5th home run, a solo shot. After Charlotte tied it 1-1 in the top of the 7th Emilio Guerrero hit his 7th home run in the bottom of the 8th to put the D-Jays up for good. The D-Jays only managed 3 hits in the game.

Dwight Smith Jr. extended his hit steak to 9 games and is hitting .294/.385/.559 with a pair of home runs and 7 RBI over his past 10 games.

The C’s were downed 6-3. Jairo Labourt was roughed up for 4 runs and he didn’t have good command issuing 5 walks. Ryan McBroom continue to torment the opposing pitchers with his 6th multi-hit game in his last 10 and has now hit safely in his past 6 games. McBroom is hitting .425/.419/.575 over the last 10 games….man he is on fire. Max Pentecost didn’t register a hit for the first time as a Vancouver C….time to release him…that’s it….pull out the label maker and print it off, “1st round bust”.

Oh and Roemon Fields continues to give catchers fits as he stole another two bases.
