The Blue Jays will send Mark Buehrle to the mound to continue the team’s good fortunes. I am a little surprised that more has not been made about the phenomenal start Buehrle has put together. Maybe it isn’t getting the attention some other pitcher’s success might because we are waiting for Buehrle to come back down to his career norms. When the Blue Jays first acquired him, the positives were that he is consistent. You know what you’re going to get. The negative is also that he is consistent. So, there are those who expect that his numbers will come back down.
More from Toronto Blue Jays News
- Blue Jays: Alek Manoah on pace to succeed in possible postseason
- Blue Jays: Bradley Zimmer has carved himself a valuable role
- Anthony Bass has been the shutdown reliever the Blue Jays needed
- Blue Jays: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. open to a long-term contract
- Blue Jays: Snapping cold streaks at the right time
To be honest, it’ll take a REALLY bad patch for that to happen. I don’t want to be around if and when it does happen. Man, people will be upset!
Tonight might actually be a good night for Buehrle to continue his hot season. He is up against a Rays team that is struggling to score runs. As well, he is 9-5 life time against the Rays. The Rays’ hitters have seen lots of Buehrle over the years. David DeJesus has the most at bats against him (25) while Evan Longoria has had the most success. Longoria has a .421 average in 19 at bats with a homerun and 5 RBI.
The Rays will counter with the newly activated Alex Cobb. His first start after coming off the DL was against the Oakland A’s. He went 6 2/3 innings in the Rays’ win. The Jays will be in tough against Cobb. Lifetime, he has the edge with a 2-1 record and a 2.95 ERA. The Blue Jays hitters don’t have a whole lot of experience against Cobb either. Melky Cabrera has the most at bats with just 6. And, this longball happy Jays lineup has not hit a homerun against him.
