“Thanks” to the Canadian long weekend I missed updates from the Arizona Fall League on Friday night. Today I’ll try to make up for it by covering both Friday’s and Monday’s games. There were no games played on either Saturday or Sunday.

Friday October 11th

The Salt River Rafters took on the Peoria Javelinas for the first time in the event. Kenny Wilson batted lead off after having the previous night off and was a force to reckoned with yet again. He was two for three and had two walks but was caught stealing twice.

Marcus Stroman entered the game in out of the bullpen in the eighth inning and gave up 2 hits and an earned run to get tagged with the loss. He had two ground outs and a line out in one inning of work.

Final: Rafters 3, Javenlias 5

Monday October 14th

Last night the Rafters took on the Surprise Saguaros at Surprise Stadium, which is a real place about 45 minutes outside of Phoenix. Wilson led off yet again and continued his dominance going 3 for 5 with an RBI and two steals. He’s currently tied for the league lead with 10 hits, second in steals with 4 and batting .556/.619/.611.

Drew Hutchison started for the Rafters in what was his first start of the event. He lasted 2.2 innings, gave up two hits and two runs but neither was earned. He also had two strikeout and didn’t walk a batter. Control has always been a strength for Hutchison and he looked good with 30 of his 45 pitches called for strikes.

John Stilson was called on for the save and was better than his last appearance when he allowed five earned runs in 1/3 of an inning. He allowed one hit but had two strikeouts and 14 of his 19 pitches were called for strikes.

Derrick Chung batted ninth for the Rafters and tallied a hit, walk and strikeout.

Final: Rafters 3, Saguaros 2

Salt River faces off against Surprise for game two of the home-and-home series tonight. Start time is tentatively scheduled for 6:35 MST.
