Jul 26, 2013; Toronto, Ontario, CAN; Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Brett Lawrie (13) celebrates his solo home with center fielder Colby Rasmus (28) in the fourth inning against the Houston Astros at the Rogers Centre. Mandatory Credit: John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY SportsDo the Toronto Blue Jays have it written in Adam Lind’s contract that he has to hit 5th or 4th regardless of how stupid it is?
I mean Cito, Farrell and Gibby can’t all be crazy right?
You know what, it’s great Adam Lind had a good couple months this season but he’s gone back to being Adam Lind recently so he has no business hitting 5th right now.
Neither does Maicer Izturis hitting 2nd.
Especially when the Jays have these 2 guys who may have heard of named Colby Rasmus and Brett Lawrie.
THEY SHOULDN’T BE HITTING 6TH AND 7TH!
Rasmus and Lawrie HAVE TO hit in the top 5 of the order. Maybe one of them hits in the 2 spot and the other in the 5 spot.
Or whatever, I don’t even care where you put them as long as there somewhere in the top 5 part of the lineup.
They just have to get more at bats then Adam freaking Lind and Izturis.
Also having your 5 best or hottest hitters at the top of your lineup is a good strategy! You’ll probably score more runs!
Even if Rasmus and Lawrie were both stinking it up right now you would think it’d be common sense to give them more at bats. There important pieces to the future of the team.
Lind and Izturis? Not so much.
It feels great to see Colby Rasmus finally reaching his potential. He has a beautiful .273/.335/.478 slash line and has put up a 4 WAR with 44 games still left.
That’s another reason to give Rasmus and Lawrie more at bats. There’s so few games left, let them learn as much as possible.
And Lawrie has an OPS over .900 in his last 120 plate appearances. That also includes an 11 game hit streak. He’s starting to look like the Rookie of the Year, MVP, future clean-up hitter we saw in his 2011 cameo and got our hopes to high up for in 2012.
I try to avoid being grumpy but come on. Make that lineup top heavy for a better offense and Rasmus and Lawrie’s development.
