Minors Movements in Jays Affiliates: Casey Lawrence Promoted to Dunedin and more

There are a few promotions and injury news to report from within the Jays affiliates landscape. Here they are in no certain order of importance:

Casey Lawrence Promoted to HiA Dunedin

According to his Twitter feed:

“@caseylawrence: Enroute to Dunedin. Can’t wait to get out of this ugly Iowa weather. From a plane that I had to duck my head the entire flight to one with direct tv”

There has been no other confirmation that he has been promoted, but it seems to be the case. His stats so far in 2011 are as follows:

56.2 IP / 61 hits / 13 BB / 44 Ks / .272 AA / 3.97 ERA

LHB hit .285 off of him in Lansing, while RHB hit .257

If true, it makes it a dire situation in Lansing since Misaul Diaz has been added to the 7-day DL and they’re also losing Lawrence. That begs the question, who will replace them in Lansing?

RHP Rey Gonzalez Moving up to AAA LAs Vegas, OF Dewayne Wise Released

In yet another promotion for the Jays minors pitchers, Gonzalez is getting yet another shot at AAA. He has a 2.56 ERA over 11 starts in New Hampshire to his credit, and has held his opponents to a .271 average overall. He has 13 BB and 40 Ks through 70.1 IP and will now try to make it through AAA to get to Toronto. Gonzalez has 16 GS to his credit in AAA, all from 2010 in Las Vegas, and he definitely needs to do better than his 9.18 ERA this time around!

If he does well, there’s a chance that he could earn a spot start or a pen spot at some point this season.

Kenny Wilson Added to the 7-Day DL In Lansing

I haven’t heard what the injury is yet, but Ryan Schimpf was just activated from the 7-Day DL simultaneously, so they’re swapping spots.
