Jays Jots 11/15: Alex Anthopoulos, Torey Lovullo, John Farrell

On the eve of the GM Meetings in Florida, here’s a look at a few recent notes concerning the Jays:

Alex Anthopoulos was on the Fan 590 this morning at 10am right after touching down in Florida for the meetings, and you can listen to it here. He talks about offseason acquisitions, but said he was late getting to the interview because he was “caught on the phone trying to get, not a trade done, but a signing done”. He said he still wasn’t finished. Any guesses on who it is?

Also, Jays Journal is now on Facebook, click the link and hit that “like” button, as Mat Germain and I hope to have some good discussions going on that board! There’s one up right now starting with the Jays 2011 bullpen, and we’d love to hear your offseason ideas.

Probably the most overlooked member of the Jays coaching staff, first base coach Torey Lovullo, was also on the Fan590 in Toronto recently, and it’s worth a listen. Here’s the link to the radio clip. One highlight was learning that Lovullo actually played for Brian Butterfield and Dwayne Murphy back in the day, and knew Bruce Walton previously from west coast college baseball.

It’s easy to assume that everyone has already read Richard Griffin of the Toronto Star’s in depth interview with Jays skipper John Farrell. If you haven’t though, it’s almost considered essential reading.

Vernon Wells held his 2nd annual “Vernon Wells Perfect 10 Charity Gala” yesterday in Southlake, TX, and today he’s holding his celebrity golf tournament at Trophy Club Country Club in Trophy Club, TX. Notable participants in the tournament include Albert Pujols, Ken Griffey Jr., Nolan Ryan, and…Kevin Millar. You can find the full list of celebrity participants here.

New Jays bullpen coach Pat Hentgen made an appearance on the Fan 590, and you can listen to that interview here. Make sure to advance it though about 3/4 of the way through past all of the useless banter about minor NBA stuff. It was interesting to hear how Hentgen was actually called personally by Alex Anthopoulos and was offered the position.

Enjoy!
