RHP Henderson Alvarez will be 20 years old on the 18th of April and got an early birthday present through a stellar performance yesterday. He turned in 7 shut out innings, walking 2 and allowing 2 hits while striking out 3. Unfortunately, he did not factor in the decision because Alan Farina blew the save and allowed 2 ER to score, but the outing was still outstanding because it came against Daytona, a very strong Cubs affiliate filled with top prospects. they have guys like Josh Vitters, DJ LeMahieu, Brett Jackson, and Kyler Burke who are all excellent prospects. The fact that Henderson kept this team to 2 hits in 7 innings indicates just how potent his stuff really is. Daniel DeLucia got the win in relief after pitching 2 scoreless innings of his own, and 23 year old Matthew Daly got his second save of the season.
Every Dunedin hitter got at least 1 hit in the game. Bradley McElroy and Welinton Ramirez got 2 hits a piece, and Ramirez added 2 stolen bases to go with his. However, it was Travis d’Arnaud who led the way – again – with 3 hits of his own including a double, bringing his season’s average up to .350 – much higher than any other Dunedin hitter.
The Dunedin Jays take on Daytona once again Tuesday.
