The Toronto Blue Jays are clearly going all in to try and win the World Series. After coming up short in extra innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this month, they’ve already made a significant improvement to their roster. They signed Dylan Cease to a seven year, $210 million contract. A player who was widely regarded the best starting pitcher on the market.

Now, they have way more time to turn their attention to other star free agents such as Bo Bichette and Kyle Tucker, to see if they can find a way to sign them. There is also the trade route, which could drastically improve their lineup and increase their chances of being World Series champions.

2 trade ideas that might make sense for the Blue Jays

Trade Idea #1: Ketel Marte - Arizona Diamondbacks

The first trade idea is for Ketel Marte, who has recently been rumored to be traded. The second baseman is arguably one of the best in the game. So, if this deal were to happen, it would essentially end any chance of them re-signing Bichette. Unless, of course, they include Andrés Gimenez in the trade, and it would re-open the shortstop position for him.

Regardless, adding Marte would be an incredibly smart move for the Blue Jays. Not only is he great defensively, he is an elite hitter. He has great bat speed, doesn’t strike out a ton, and can put the barrel on just about any ball. Plus, he does have power to his game, which checks just about every box that this club needs.

Last season, he had 136 hits in 480 at bats, which was good for a .283 batting average. He also had 28 home runs, 87 runs, 72 RBIs and four stolen bases. Again, checking off just about everything that the Blue Jays are looking for. On top of that, he is signed through 2030, which aligns with their current window to win.

Trade Idea #2: Steven Kwan - Cleveland Guardians

The second trade idea is for Steven Kwan of the Cleveland Guardians. The Blue Jays have had a lot of success trading with the Guardians since Mark Shapiro and Ross Atkins took over. Just last season alone, they acquired Gimenez and Shane Bieber from them, and if they play their cards right, they could land Kwan as well.

He would be a good fit in the outfield. He essentially brings exactly what they already have: great contact, speed and fielding. He and Dalton Varsho would be an elite combination in left field and center.

Last season, he had 170 hits in 625 at bats for a .272 batting average. He also had 11 home runs, 81 runs scored, 56 RBIs and 21 stolen bases. He isn’t known to be a power hitter, but he does have some pop. But more importantly, he brings elite defense and rarely swings and misses. Similar to a lot of the current members of the club’s outfield.

There are a few other players that could be on the Blue Jays’ trade list. There’s Jarren Duran of the Boston Red Sox, but it seems unlikely that they would trade with an interdivisional rival. There is also Nick Castellanos, who could be a good power-hitting option, but with his 20 million dollar contract, it would be hard to justify the deal unless the Philadelphia Phillies agreed to eat some of that salary. Nevertheless, acquiring Marte or Kwan makes more sense for what the Blue Jays are looking for.
