Blue Jays MILB Recap: Urena comes up clutch in victory

Jays Journal takes its daily look into the Toronto Blue Jays Minor League system. Richard Urena came up clutch for the Fisher Cats while Bo Bichette inched closer to .400.

Buffalo Bisons at Lehigh Valley (Phillies)
Rained Out

The Bisons contest versus the Lehigh Valley Pigs was postponed due to rain. The two combatants will play a doubleheader today with the first game kicking off at 12:35 pm when Mat Latos gets the ball for the herd opposite Tom Eshelman.

The second half of the twin bill will see Jarrett Grube take the bump versus Ben Lively.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats at Altoona Curve (Pirates)
7-5 Win

The Fisher Cats had their hitting shoes on last night pounding out 12 hits enroute to a 7-5 victory over the Curve.

Five players had multi-hit games paced by Richard Urena who had two hits and knocked in three cats. Urena delivered a clutch 2 run double in the Top of the 9th inning to put the Fisher Cats up for good. Ryan McBroom also smacked his 5th round-tripper of the season.

Jon Harris got the start and surrendered 4 earned runs while scattering 10 hits and fanning 1 over 6 innings of work. Jose Fernandez and Dusty Isaacs mopped up the remaining 3 innings without giving up a run. Isaacs earned his first win of the season.

Shane Dawson gets the nod today for the Fisher Cats as he battles Brandon Waddell of the Curve.

MVFC – Richard Urena- 2/5, 2B, 3 RBI

Dunedin Blue Jays at Daytona Tortugas (Reds)
5-2 Win

Andrew Guillotte and Danny Jansen led the charge offensively for Dunedin with 2 hits including a double apiece. Jansen would also chip in with 2 runs batted on the day. D.J. Davis and Guillotte each swiped a base while Max Pentecost knocked in a run with a sacrifice bunt.

On the mound, Conor Fisk tossed 6.1 innings of 2 run ball while surrendering 6 hits and striking out 2 Tortugas. Fisk relieved pitcher Chris Smith who departed after the first inning. Tom Robson picked up his first save of the season pitching a scoreless ninth.

Jordan Romano will get the ball today however the Tortugas have yet to announce their starter for the contest.

MVDJ – Conor Fisk 6.1 IP, 6 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks, 2 strikeouts, Win

Lansing Lugnuts at Kane County Cougars (Diamondbacks)
6-4 Loss

The Lugnuts got bit by the Cougars falling 6-4 in the contest. No surprise the offense came from Bo Bichette and Bradley Jones once again. Bichette collected another 3 hits including a double and a run batted in to boost his league-leading average to .367.

While Jones chipped in with 2 knocks of his own to raise his average to .331 on the season. Surprisingly Vladimir Guerrero Jr was hitless in the contest.

Denis Diaz and Griffin Glaude each were stung for 3 runs apiece with Diaz taking the loss on the score card.

Mike Ellenbest will attempt to get the Lugnuts back in the win column as he matches up against Jesse Scholtens.
