Toronto Blue Jays scores and analysis for minor league games played on Tuesday, August 30th

Buffalo Bisons (66-72)  –   0
Scranton/ WB Rail Riders (85-52) –   4

The Bisons got shut out by the Rail Riders and were even no-hit for 5.2 innings.  Nestor Cortes baffled the Bison hitters for 5.2 innings when he was removed from the game due to his pitch count.  Cortes had allowed just three walks and zero hits during the outing.  The Bisons collected just three hits throughout the remainder of the game.

Scott Copeland was solid but clearly out-dueled during this one.  He outlasted Cortes and pitched 8.0 innings while allowing three earned runs.  He scattered eight hits while striking out four.  Copeland appears to be back on track after allowing six earned runs in his previous outing.

The Thunder struck late in this one to steal a win away from the Fisher Cats.  The Cat attack pounced early on a Dwight Smith Jr. two-run homer in the first inning.  The home run drove in Roemon Fields who had a great night.  Fields hit a solo home run in his second at-bat.  He finished the game 2-for-4 night with two runs scored, a stolen base, a home run, and an RBI.  Reese McGuire added an RBI on a single for the 4th run of the game.

On the bump Wilmer Font continued to show consistency.  He pitched 5.2 innings and allowed three earned runs.  A pair of the runs came on a Mark Payton two-run homer.  Font was solid and has been good in all six of his starts for the Cats.  He has yet to allow more than three runs in any start.  He also did not issue a free pass and struck out eight during his latest outing.

This game was suspended due to rain and will resume Wednesday.

Off Day

Vancouver Canadians (27-43)   –   4
Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (31-39)   –   5

Vancouver fell just short in the bottom of the ninth as they put up two runs. Bryan Lizardo and Juan Tejada both doubled while Rodrigo Orozco and Andres Sotillo had two singles apiece.

Denis Diaz got the start for the Canadians and allowed three runs over five innings on three hits and four walks. Zach Jackson (2.0 IP, 2 K) and Griffin Glaude (2.0 IP, 2 ER, 4 K) rounded out the relief effort.

Game 1 Loss 1-4

Reggie Pruitt collected the only hits for the Blue Jays in a 2-for-4 outing.  Stuart Holmes allowed three earned runs in his 3.0 innings of work to allow the Rays to collect the win.  The offence just could not get anything going against the Rays pitching staff.

Game 2 Loss 2-5

Bradley Jones supplied the power on a solo home run in the 7th inning.  He now has 16 home runs and went 2-for-3 with two runs scored as well.  Joel Espinal allowed five earned runs in 3.0 innings of work.  This dug the hole that the offence just could come back from.
