The Toronto Blue Jays are promoting pitchers Mike Bolsinger and Danny Barnes in advance of Tuesday night’s game against the Houston Astros.

Following two extra-inning games in two days, the Blue Jays current relief arms are in need of support after several have worked back-to-back games.

Bolsinger came over from the Los Angeles Dodgers in Monday’s trade for Jesse Chavez and should provide Toronto with length should it be needed. That will be especially valuable given that current long reliever Joe Biagini worked two innings last night and Scott Feldman was brought in after throwing 38 pitches the night before.

After opening the season with two triple-A starts followed by six MLB starts, Bolsinger has been working out of the bullpen for the Oklahoma City Dodgers. In the 21.0 innings since, he has posted a 3.86 ERA.

Barnes is an interesting case as he’s gone from a little-known minor league name to dominating both the double-A and triple-A levels in 2016.

After posting a 1.01 ERA in 35.2 innings over 24 outings, he’s gotten even better with the Buffalo Bisons. In 17.2 innings at that level, he’s struck out 21 batters with a 0.51 ERA and held opponents to a .086 batting average.

Ryan Goins and Bo Schultz have been optioned in corresponding moves.
