The Toronto Blue Jays have made a minor roster adjustment ahead of Friday night’s game against the Detroit Tigers.

Starte Drew Hutchison has been optioned back to the triple-A Buffalo Bisons after starting for the injured Marco Estrada (15-day disabled list) on Friday. Andy Burns has been recalled in his place.

Hutchison was not scheduled to pitch again until after the All-Star Break, so this represents a piece of tidy roster management by the Blue Jays.

The right-hander made two appearances in his most recent stint at the MLB level, one of which was a relief appearance. In 12.2 MLB innings this season, Hutchison has a 4.97 ERA with 12 strikeouts and four walks.

He’s been doing his part for the triple-A Bisons, however, leading their staff through his first 15 starts of the season. His minor league numbers this year are much more impressive, sporting a 2.78 ERA with 10.0 strikeouts per nine innings.

Burns will offer the Blue Jays some increased flexibility off their bench, which now returns to four players (typically rounded out by Josh Thole, Junior Lake, and Darwin Barney). He has the ability to play all around the infield and in the corner outfield if necessary.

Through 70 games with the triple-A Bisons, the MLB rookie has hit .238 with five home runs and 25 RBI.
