Results and analysis for Toronto Blue Jays minor league games played on Wednesday, April 27th

Buffalo Bisons (9-11)   –   2
Rochester Red Wings (8-11)   –   1

The triple-A Bisons won in walk-off fashion Wednesday night when Domonic Brown singled in Jon Berti in the bottom of the tenth. Berti, just promoted to Buffalo from double-A, came in to pinch run for David Adams in the final frame and stole second base before plating the winning run.

Casey Kotchman‘s second home run of the season, a solo shot in the seventh, accounted for the rest of Buffalo’s offence on the night. Second baseman Andy Burns had a strong night at the dish, going 3-for-5 with a double hitting second in the lineup.

Roberto Hernandez made his first start with the Bisons and looked very strong, allowing just three hits over four shutout innings. Arnold Leon took over for four innings of his own (3 H, 1 ER, 6 K) before handing off to Dustin Antolin (W, 1-0) who pitched two perfect innings for the win.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats (7-11)   –   0
Trenton Thunder (12-8)   –   1

It was a treat for pitching fans in Trenton on Wednesday as the two teams combined for just six hits. Thunder starter Dietrich Enns and reliever Daniel Camarena combined for a two-hit shutout of the visiting Fisher Cats.

A Melky Mesa double and Ian Parmley single were the only blips on the radar from New Hampshire, who squandered some excellent pitching performances of their own. Albright College alumnus Casey Lawrence pitched seven innings of four-hit ball, allowing just one earned run and striking out four. Danny Barnes struck out both batters he faced before Colt Hynes entered to record a single out.

This is the second consecutive game in which the Fisher Cats have been shut out. After an off day on Thursday, New Hampshire welcomes the Binghamton Mets.

Dunedin Blue Jays (11-9)   –   1
Tampa Yankees (13-7)   –   6

Some quiet bats and an uneven defensive performance cost the D-Jays against the Yankees, who pounded out 13 hits on the night.

Starter Kyle Westwood was roughed up for six runs (five earned) on 11 hits over five innings of work. Alonzo Gonalez (2.0 IP), Adonys Cardona (1.0 IP), and Matt Dermody (1.0 IP) combined for a much stronger effort in relief, however.

Dickie Joe Thon was the only D-Jay to record a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a double. Michael Bourn, batting leadoff again for Dunedin, went 1-for-4 with a single. Top pitching prospect Conner Greene is scheduled to pitch Thursday night in the series finale.

Lansing Lugnuts (10-7)   –   6
Beloit Snappers (10-10)   –   0

Angel Perdomo is quickly turning into one of the Blue Jays’ top-three or four must-follow prospects. The 6-foot-6 Dominican left-hander pitched five shutout innings, allowing just three hits and striking out seven batters in the win.

Gustavo Pierre pitched one inning of scoreless relief before handing off to Starlyn Suriel, who picked up the three-inning save (1).

The Lugnuts produced their six runs on seven hits and five walks. Catcher Ryan Hissey (2-for-4) doubled and singled while centre-fielder Andrew Guillotte moved his average to .328 with two singles (2-for-4). First-baseman Juan Kelly continued to work a strong bat, as well, doubling in two runs to open the scoring in the third inning.
