The Toronto Blue Jays have officially recalled Drew Hutchison from the triple-A Buffalo Bisons ahead of his Sunday start. To make room for Hutchison, Toronto optioned left-handed relief pitcher Chad Girodo who was recalled following the suspension of Chris Colabello

Girodo looked very strong in his lone outing on Friday against the Athletics, pitching two innings of relief and allowing just one hit. He also forced four ground ball outs and should be next in line should the Blue Jays need a lefty arm.

Manager John Gibbons has already made it clear that Hutchison will be optioned himself immediately following that start. At that point, the Blue Jays are expected to recall a direct replacement for Colabello’s bat in the lineup. Jesus Montero and Matt Dominguez are both swinging hot bats at the triple-A level in Buffalo and should be in consideration.

Hutchison was the Blue Jays 2015 opening day starter, but fell out of a rotation spot with his struggles last season and the addition of depth ahead of him. After opening the year with two very good starts in triple-A, Hutchison struggled his last time out when he allowed five earned runs on 10 hits over six innings.
