Blue Jays Winter Ball Update: Christian Lopes Goes Off!

facebooktwitterreddit

Here’s an update on some Blue Jays playing winter ball. In some cases, there is not much new to report from the various leagues, but here’s what’s new:

Australian Baseball League

Jack Murhpy-C- In his most recent contest, he homered, drove in 4 and went 3-5. Murphy’s brought his average up to .368. In 28 games, he has 5 HR, 27 RBI, 12 BB to go with just 15K. He leads the Canberra Cavalry in average, HR and RBI.

Anthony Alford-OF- Alford leads the Cavalry with 26 runs scored and 7 stolen bases. However, that is where the pretty numbers end. His line of .200/.317/.295 is only made less ugly by his  strike out numbers. In 28 games, he’s collected 38 K.

Christian Lopes-2B- Lopes went off in his most recent contest. He belted 2 home runs and walked once in a 3-4 performance. That is his 3rd HR in 2 games. On the season, he is second on the club with a .364 average. In 27 games, he has 5 HR, 19 RBI, 11 BB and a mere 8 K. His impressive line of .364/.415/.564 will grab some attention.

L.B. Dantzler-1B- Dantzler is continuing a rather solid winter for the Cavalry slashing .265/.315/.427. He has nearly an RBI (20) per game (21). Thanks to an 0-5 performance in his last contest, he’s seen his average take a dip. What stands out is the lack of plate discipline. He’s collected 18 K in his 21 games to go with 8 BB. Still, Dantzler is 2nd on the team in runs scored with 21.

Liga Mexicana del Pacifico

Ryan Schimpf-2B- continues to see no action as a reserve player for Tomateros de Culiacan

Jorge Flores-SS- He’s struggled over his last few games going 0-8. And in 66 games, he’s hitting .225. With 47 hits in his 209 AB, it is safe to say that Flores is struggling over all. He has swiped 7 bases, though. But, he’s been caught 5 times. He has 12 walks to go with 40 K.

Liga Venezuela Beisbol Professional

Casey Lawrence-RP- Lawrence finished up his time in Venezuela seeing action in 8 games (7 starts). In 39.2 innings, he went 1-4, 3.40 with 3 HR, 7 BB and 20K. Hitters go to him for a .297 average.

  • Andy Burns-3B- Burns would see action in 12 games before his last game on Oct.22. Perhaps going 1-22 up to that point didn’t help him. All told, he hit .205 with 0 HR, 5 RBI, 6 BB and 9 K.

Gregory Infante-RP- Infante had an up and down winter with the Tiburones de La Guaira. His last performance on Dec. 29 was not the best way to end his experience. He’ll be thinking about this line for a long time: 2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2K. Or, maybe he’ll look at his overall time in his native Venezuela and feel better. For the winter: 1-3, 3.60 ERA, 10 SV, 36 K in 30 IP.

Arik Sikula-RP- Sikula wrapped up his brief experience in Venezuela with fairly decent numbers. He went 1-0, 2.63 ERA in 15 games with 5 BB and 8 K. Opponents hit just .213 against him.

    Liga de Beisbol Dominicano

There is nothing new to report from the Dominican since the last update.

Liga de Beisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente

Since our last update, Dickie Joe Thon has picked up an at bat, but struck out. In 16 games, he’s totalled 17 K and a .194 average.
