Buffalo Bisons (29-29)

Welcome back Sean Nolin. Nolin has been out with a left groin strain since May 15th. Nolin throw 29 of his 51 pitches for strikes, allowed 2-hit, a home run, and struck out 2. Ryan Rowland-Smith pitched 1.2 inning allowing 3 runs on 2-hits. The Bisons bullpen wouldn’t allow a run over the next 5 innings. This one required 10 innings to produce a winner as the Bisons won 5-4.

The Bisons were able to overcome a 3 run 4th by Toledo with 2-runs of their own in the top of the 5th. Dan Johnson hit his 12th home run to drive in 2 in the bottom of the 1st and A.J. Jimenez also drove in a pair with his first double with the Bisons. Jimenez would end up driving in the extra-inning walk off RBI single.

Note worthy: Ricky Romero has been placed on the 7-day DL, no indication of type of injury. This might have just been a move to make room for the return of Sean Nolin.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats (24-36) The Fisher Cats have been playing well so far in June after stinking it up in May. They are 5-1 in their past 6 games after a 9-2 win over the Erie SeaWolves. The Fisher Cats got a team effort as they got a solid pitching performance from Austin Bibens-Dirkx and every Fisher Cats starter had at least one hit. The day belonged to the Fisher Cat with a mutli-hit game…. Matt Newman. Newman had been struggling since being called up to New Hampshire hitting .210 and no home runs. He hit 2 on the night and had a 3 RBI game. The Fisher Cats also got contributions from 2-run doubles off the bats of Jonathan Jones and Jorge Flores. The bottom four in the order got on base 8 times and drove in 8 runs. Jorge Flores has collected 8 hits in 6 games. Flores is hitting .318/.375/.409 in his first week since getting the promotion for Dunedin Blue Jays.

Dunedin Blue Jays (41-19)

For the fifth time in 2014 the D-Jays have been shut out. The D-Jays dropped their 19th game, 5-0, to St. Lucie Mets. The D-Jays are 6-4 in the past 10 games. Matt Boyd started the game and struck out 6 and walked one over 5IP; unfortunately, the he didn’t receive any offensive support. Boyd allowed one run on fielding error, which was enough to earn him his first loss.

K.C. Hobson had a three hit night and now has hits in his last 4 games. Could Hobson finally be putting things together? Hobson is hitting .217 but has driven in 48RBI and has shown great patience despite his struggles at the plate. The rest of the D-Jays did a lot of striking out (15), but not much else.

Lansing Lugnuts (28-32)

The Lugnuts got smashed by South Bend by a score of 13-5. The Lugnuts have been outscored 21-14 in losing the series to the Silver Hawks. Alberto Tirado, Jays Journal 10th ranked prospect, has been over matched all season and this game was no different. Tirado failed to make it out of the 2nd and finished by allowing 5 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks. Yeyfry Del Rosario also got roughed up by allowing a home run, 5 runs on 5 hits. Jason Leblebijian, Mitch Nay and Matt Dean had multi-hit games. D.J. Davis has a mixed bag game. Davis hit his 5th home run but also was credited with his 11th error in the outfield and got the strike out hat trick. Dawel Lugo was not able to collect a hit, thus breaking his 15-game hitting streak.
