It’s a baby boy for Toronto Blue Jays IF Munenori Kawasaki

We could have a Munenori Kawasaki Jr. on our hands.

Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi tweeted the news tonight that Kawasaki is now the proud father of a baby boy. As I write this, no name has been announced yet.

Kawasaki has bounced back and forth between Toronto and the club’s Triple-A affiliate in Buffalo for much of the season. His fun-loving personality and crazy antics have endeared him to Blue Jays and baseball fans everywhere, and for some strange reason has had a bizarre impact on the Blue Jays winning percentage without doing a whole lot to actually contribute statistically during his time with the team.

This oddity was mentioned in a Globe and Mail article and has been a topic of conversation around Toronto. Since it’s Friday night/Saturday morning I’m far too lazy to scratch beyond the surface but the Blue Jays are 39-33 (.542) with Kawasaki in the lineup. After yet another heartbreaking walk-off loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, the Blue Jays record drops to 17-33 (.340) without him.

According to the same article, when Kawasaki was told about his winning record he responded with “I like you”. I’m never entirely sure when we get a quote from Kawasaki if he fully understands the question or is a borderline comedic genius but it was a typical response from the man they call Mune.

Kawasaki is currently on the Blue Jays paternity list. I’ve given up guessing what move the Jays will pull next so I’m not sure where he will end up when he returns, especially with rosters set to expand on September 1st and the fact his contract has options. But I’m thrilled to hear there could be a second coming of the Kawasaki GIF god.
