Lansing Lugnuts (2-1)

Lake County Captains (1-2)

The Lugnuts and Captains split the double-header. Game 1 went to the Lugnuts 3-2, with the Captains getting the better of the Lugnuts in game 2, 2-1.

Game 1

At the Plate LF Dickie Joe Thon hit a three-run homer in the 4th inning, which proved to be all the Lugnuts would need. Ryan McBroom went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a double. As Lake County’s Anderson Polanco and Luke Eubank held Lansing to 3 hits.

On the mound Starlyn Suriel (1-0) allowed on hit and one walk, striking out 8 over 5 innings of work. Tim Mayza had a rough day with 5 walks over an inning and third, allowing 2 runs. Non-draftee New Brunswick native Andrew Case retired the last two batters, but not before allowing 2-hits, for his first save.

Prospect watch: Rowdy Tellez went 0-for-3 and has yet to register a hit.

Game 2

At the Plate the Lugnuts were limited to 5 hits and went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. DH Ryan McBroom drove in the clubs only run. D.J. Davis, Rowdy Tellez, Gunnar Heidt, and Chris Carlson each collected a hit. C Danny Jansen and Gunnar Heidt showed good patience with a pair of walk each.

On the mound 17th round Alberta native Shane Dawson took the loss, allowing 2ER over 5 innings. Shane walked one and struck out 6, but allowed a 2-run shot off the bat of Bobby Bradley. Jose Fernandez pitched the final two frames, allowing a hit and a strike out.

Prospect watch: Danny Jansen could be a prospect to keep an eye on in 2015. Taken in the 16th round of the 2014 draft, Jansen has shown a good eye at the plate at every level he’s played.
