Drafted: By the Rockies in 1st rd (9th overall) of the 2004 draft

Quick Facts:

Had Tommy John surgery during Senior year of HS.

Made it as high as #26th on Baseball America’s top 100 prospects list (pre-2005).

SAL league mid-season all-star in 2006.

CAL League post-season all-star in 2007.

Made the AFL Rising Stars list in 2008.

With Spring Training kicking off this week, I thought it would be important and interesting to take a look at the last minor league transactions completed by the Jays. In order to get the best feel for what came and went in the minors, I’ll simply include the additions and subtractions from the Jays affiliates. The time period covered below is end of July 2010 to the last week, which I believe gives us a pretty decent review of changes made to the depth charts, some of which may have been missed by Jays fans.

Also, now that we will have covered the latest and greats of the minors transactions over the last 9 months, we will also be updating all Jays minors transactions in our new “Jays Minors Transactions” page, so check back there from time to time if you’re curious about what’s happening in the Jays affiliates and depth chart.

Last week I touched on the departure of Mike Jacobs from the Blue Jays organization and the hole it opened at 1B on the Las Vegas 51s/Toronto Blue Jays depth chart.

Apart from internal candidate David Cooper, who played with Double-A New Hampshire for the second straight season in 2010, the list of available Triple-A first basemen in the Blue Jays’ system is slim.

Looking to the trade market, one name that jumps out is Lars Anderson, who is now the top-ranked first base prospect in the Boston Red Sox Minor League system. He’s positionally blocked after a trade sent Anthony Rizzo (plus three more prospects) to the San Diego Padres, which netted the Red Sox their shiny new toy: Three-time All-Star first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. (more…)
