Finally, we get to see some game action from the most recent class of draft picks and best prospects the Jays have in the minors. Unfortunately, they really made use of the number 1 a lot, and not in a good way as all 3 teams only managed 1 run against their respective opponents. Here are those and other details.

Jays Minors Transactions Review: July ’10 to Feb ’11

With Spring Training kicking off this week, I thought it would be important and interesting to take a look at the last minor league transactions completed by the Jays. In order to get the best feel for what came and went in the minors, I’ll simply include the additions and subtractions from the Jays affiliates. The time period covered below is end of July 2010 to the last week, which I believe gives us a pretty decent review of changes made to the depth charts, some of which may have been missed by Jays fans.

Also, now that we will have covered the latest and greats of the minors transactions over the last 9 months, we will also be updating all Jays minors transactions in our new “Jays Minors Transactions” page, so check back there from time to time if you’re curious about what’s happening in the Jays affiliates and depth chart.

Jays Notes: Minors Transactions, and a Jays Season Preview

There are 2 days remaining before we kick off workouts and spring training, and also 2 days remaining before we get a real sense of whether Jose Bautista will be a Blue Jays player long-term, or short-term. These are some exciting times! Here are some Jays notes I gathered from around the MLB and Jays sites:

Baseball America’s Matt Eddy provides us with the 1-8 Feb minor league transactions, of which many were completed by the Jays. I’ll use his information for all of the transactions listed below.
LHP Chuck Huggins (24) has voluntarily retired and will no longer pitch for the Blue Jays affiliates. A 23rd rd pick of the Jays in the 2008 draft, Chuck had made it as high as AA for a short stint in 2010, and did fairly well in HiA. He held a 3.93 ERA over 137.1 IP, allowed 127 hits, 46 BB, good for a 1.260 whip, and earned 97 Ks in the process. Good luck to him in his next endeavors! (more…)
