With the Las Vegas 51s playing a doubleheader yesterday, Jays affiliates played five games in total. It was a clean sweep for the affiliates yesterday, as every team won. There were quite a few notable mentions in the games, so here’s a rundown of everything that happened!

Wins/Losses: 24-18 | Streak: W4 | 2nd in PCL Pacific South (2.0 GB)

Game #1: Las Vegas 51s 12, Omaha Storm Chasers 5

In a close game early on that saw each team take the lead twice in the first five innings, the 51s, down 5-3 going into the final frame, emphatically got the win after scoring a whopping nine runs in the top of the ninth.

Jays Rebound, Marcum Sets The Tone

Shaun Marcum knows exactly what he;s got and knows exactly how to use it. His devastating change up is so awesome that hitters are in a constant state of flux about when to swing. Early swings, pop ups, and ground outs are the direct result of this pitch and it worked for Shaun all day long – with 1 exception being a pitch Ryan Howard recognized enough to tattoo into the center-right field stands. The Jays needed this win to get back on track some and will now be able to concentrate on winning the rubber match.The fact that Marcum was effective set the tone for the Jays in this game and allowed the offense to get things going, slowly but surely.To score 5 runs and have 3 HRs in a game is becoming pretty standard for the Jays as it still seems to be their strategy to knock the snot out of the baseball, regardless of averages that result from this approach.

Brett Cecil has had plenty of time to prepare and watch the Phillies hit, so hopefully he took the right notes. I really do like how Cito set up the lineup yesterday, although I’m not sure it will last. Batting Lind and Hill lower in the lineup gives them more RBI opportunities and is definitely the change of pace both needed to get back on track and motivated.It’ll be interesting to see if he uses a similar lineup today. Jays Minors Review: 7-Jun-10

The Las Vegas game was postponed, so there’s nothing to look into game review wise for them. However, I would point out that Brett Wallace is now hitting .172 over his last 10 games….not exactly what fans are hoping for. That, combined with Lyle Overbay’s play turning up a notch and the Jays well within the AL East lead race, is enough to ensure that we won’t see Brett in Toronto until at least July.

The most interesting part of the New Hampshire game yesterday was the fact that Ronald Uviedo, recently acquired from the Pirates, was the starter! It was the first start of his 2010 season as he was expected by most to remain in the pen, where he has been more than effective. Ronald did well as a starter in 2009 with 21 GS for a season total of 110 IP, 89 Ks, 30 BB, and a 3.35 ERA. It’ll be interesting to see if he continues to start and how well he does as he stretches himself out. Yesterday’s game had his struggling with control, but also mostly unhittable as he walked 3 and allowed only 1 hit over 3 IP. He allowed 3 ERs in the game and was relieved by Bubbie Bzachero who threw 4 stellar shut out innings. Daniel Farquhar picked up his 14th save of the season in this one, a 5-4 win over Altoona. Here are some minor league transactions that have taken place over the last couple of weeks for the Jays:

2B/3B Brad Emaus was promoted to AAA and hit a HR in his first game there;
RP Ronald Uviedo was added to the AA New Hampshire roster;
OF Dan Perales was promoted from HiA Dunedin to AA New Hampshire;
RHP Randy Boone was place on the 7-day DL in AA New Hampshire;
RP Dustin Antolin was placed on the 7-day DL in LoA Lansing;
RP/SP Aaron Loup has been converted to a starter;
LHP Egan Smith was added to the LoA Lansing roster from Extended Spring Training;
LHP Evan Crawford was placed on the 7-day DL for LoA Lansing;
OF Brad McElroy was promoted from LoA Lansing to HiA Dunedin;
UT Kevin Nolan was activated from the 7-day DL in LoA Lansing;
OF Adam Calderone and IF Jonathan Diaz were promoted from AA to AAA Las Vegas;
IF Luis Sanchez was activated from the 7-day DL for AA New Hampshire; and
LHP Boomer Potts was promoted from HiA Dunedin to AA New Hampshire.
