Aaron Sanchez got the Toronto Blue Jays back on the right track on Tuesday night at Chase Field, defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-1.

The young right-hander showed no signs of rust making his first start since prior to the MLB All-Star break. Sanchez threw seven innings, allowing just one run on six hits. He struck out five, not issuing a single walk while11 ground ball outs to earn his 10th win and lower his season ERA to 2.87.

Edwin Encarnacion broke the Blue Jays through with his 25th home run of the season, a three-run shot to left field on a hanging breaking ball that scored Devon Travis and Josh Donaldson who had both reached on singles.

Following another Travis single in the fifth, the second-baseman advanced to third on a throwing error and Donaldson drove him in with a hard single to left. Travis then brought home Andy Burns for Toronto’s fifth and final run of the game in the ninth.

Donaldson and Travis provided a solid one-two punch atop the lineup, combining to go 5-for-10 with two RBI and three runs scored.

Jean Segura provided Arizona’s only offence with a well-produced run out of the leadoff spot in the first inning. After singling to right-field and stealing second base off of Russell Martin, Segura advanced to third base on a ground ball and scored on a Paul Goldschmidt grounder.

Following Sanchez out of the bullpen was Jason Grilli, who’s turned back the clock since arriving in Toronto earlier this season. Grilli pitched one scoreless inning then handed off to Roberto Osuna who did the same.

The second and final game of the series goes tomorrow afternoon at 3:40 p.m. ET with Marcus Stroman (7-4, 5.15 ERA) scheduled to face Patrick Corbin (4-8, 5.25).
