Australian Baseball League is in full swing

Fun fun fun. All the winter/fall baseball leagues are up and running with the lastest being the Australian Baseball League, which has one of the Blue Jays more dynamic outfield prospects, Anthony Alford. Catcher Jack Murphy is back with the Canberra Cavalry, looking to repeat last winters success and have been joined by L.B. Dantzler and Christian Lopes.

Canberra Cavalry

OF Anthony Alford has a lot of catching up to do in terms of baseball development, so it is very encouraging to see him getting some at-bats down under with the Cavalry. In his first week he is hitting .125/.222/.125 with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. Alford attempted one stolen and was caught in that attempt. Alford picked up two hits in his first two games but has gone hitless in his last two and even struck out 4 times in his last game.

C Jack Murphy is a true character player and has been praised for his abilities behind the plate. In three games, Jack has hit .400/.500/.400 with 4 singles, an RBI, 2 BB, and 3K. Murphy has finished the last two ABL  seasons with a +.300 batting average, here’s hoping for a three peat.

1B L.B. Dantzler has gotten into 4 games with the Cavalry and has driven in three runs and 4 of his 5 hits have gone for doubles. In his last game L.B. went 2-for-3 with 3RBI and a walk. He is hitting .357/.438/.643 after 14 AB.

2B Christian Lopes is hitting .214/.250/.286 in his first 4 games with the Cavalry. He has one walk and hasn’t registered a strike out. He drove in his only 2RBI in his last game where he went 1-for-3.

2B Ryan Schimpf after hitting .295/.367/.449 with 3HR and 10 RBI in October, Ryan has seen his average drop to .250/.333/.385 in the first week of November. He has gone hitless in his last 4 games and is hitting .150/.244/.175 in his last 10 games. Ryan has hit LHP very well this Fall with a .333 batting average versus .193 against RHP.

Naranjeros de Hermosillo

SS Jorge Flores hit his first home run on November 2nd, but oveall, he had a cold week. He is hitting .194/.256/.306 in the past 10 games. He continues to strikeout too much with 9 this week and only 3 walks. Flores normally makes better contact than this, so I am little surprised to see the high K totals. In 64G in Double-A Flores struck out 27 times. In 24 games in the Mexican League, he has struck out 19 times.

3B Andy Burns has not appeared in a game since October 22nd.

RHP Casey Lawrence took the lost in his only start last week and made a brief 0.2IP relief appearance on the 8th. In his start he went 5.2IP, 7H, 5ER, HR, BB, K. Casey now has a record of 0-3, 4.05ERA and has allowed 3 HR in 26.2IP.

Tiburones de La Guaira

RP Gregory Infante now has 3 saves in 10 appearances, striking out 14 batters in 12IP. Infante has held LHB to a .125BA and holds a 1.59ERA against LHB. His has a record of 0-1, 3.00ERA and has allowed one home run.

RP Tyler Ybarra has appeared in 2 games, pitched 1.1IP, and has no record. He has walked 4 and struck out 2.

Toros del Este

1B Matt Hague is hitting .267/.327/.267 in 14 games, but hit .212/.300/.212 in his last 10 games. He still has not collected an extra base hit, which is kinda his thing.

Gigantes del Cibao

INF Jonathan Diaz continues to hit well in the DR.Diaz has collected 9 hits last week in 10 games. Diaz even connected on pitch for his first round tripper of the fall. He’s now hitting .354/.475/.417 in 16 games with no extra base hits, HR, 5 RBI, 9 walks and 15 strikeouts.

Aguilas Cibaenas

3B Andy Fermin hasn’t played since November 2nd.

SP Liam Hendriks is playing in the DR, what? Why wouldn’t he be playing in the ABL? Well this is the first time this Aussie is on here since he was reacquired by the Blue Jays.  In his last start, Liam went 5.0IP, 5H, BB and 3K for his second win. He has not allowed a run in his 2 starts (10IP).

Tigres del Licey

3B Juan Francisco has played 7 games, hitting .250/.400/.458 with a HR, 7RBI, 4BB, and 9K. He hit his only HR in his first game , but has collected 2 extra base hits in his past 3 games.

INF Emilio Guerrero has not played since October 22nd.

Leones del Escogido

OF Brad Glenn has just recently gotten into a pair of games of Leones. He had 2 hits in his first game and went 0-for-4 in Saturday’s game. He’s hitting .250/.250/.250 with a strike out.

RP Ryan Tepera had not allowed a run in his last three appearances and has lowered his ERA from 9.64 to 7.50 this week.

RP Jimmy Cordero has seen limited action thus far. In 2 games he is 0-0, 0.00ERA in 2.1IP with a hit, 2BB, and 2K.

C A.J. Jimenez has played 4 games and has collected hits in each game. He is hitting .333/.333/.333 with an RBI so far this Fall.

2B Dickie Joe Thon has only gotten into one one and went 0-for-3 with a walk and strike out.

Mesa Solar Sox

2B Jon Berti had a two good games this week with a 4-for-4 and 2-for-4. Berti hit his 2nd HR in the 4-for-4 game and drove in 2 RBI and 3 runs. He is hitting .259/.375/.370 in 17 games, but his running games has completely disappeared. He has not attempted a single stolen base his past 10 games.

C Sean Ochinko has made the most of his limited playing time. Sean has hit .324/.381/.514 with 12 hits, a home run, and 11RBI in 11 games.

CF Dalton Pompey  has hit .258/.355/.379 in 17 games. He appeared in 4 games last week, collecting hits in 2 games. Although Pompey hasn’t been on fire this week, he has shown good plate discipline with 3 walks and a strike out this week.

LF/2B Dwight Smith Jr. played two games this week and went hitless in both games. He is now hitting .314/.385/.400 with 5 RBI, 3BB, and 3K in 9 games.

LHP Sean Nolin made one start this week and pitched to a ND. Sean went 4.0 innings, allowed 3 hits, a HR, a run, a BB and 3 strikeouts. He has a record of 2-1 with a 3.63 ERA, 6BB, and 17K in 17.1IP.

RHP Roberto Osuna pitched in relief on November 4th and went 2 perfect innings with no walks and 3 strikeouts. Roberto now has a 0-2, 9.64ERA this fall.

RHP Blake McFarland made one appearances this week and continues to sport a perfect 0.00ERA. He pitched 2.0IP and struck out 5 batters. He now has 15K in 11.2IP.

RHP Arik Sikula made one appearance this week and pitched 2.0IP, allowed one hit and one walk, while striking out 3. Arik now has 6K in 9.1IP and a 1-0, 1.93 record.
