New Hampshire Fisher Cats (48-46)

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats moved into a playoff spot with a 5-1 win over their division rivals Portland Sea Dogs. Marcus Walden gave the Fisher Cats another outstanding start, going eight innings and giving up only one run on five hits and one walk while striking out six in a ninety-seven pitch outing. Adam Loewen hit a two-run home run (his twelfth) while Brian Van Kirk went two for three and Andy Burns hit the Fisher Cats’ only double. Melky Cabrera went oh for four with a strikeout.

July 15 Game:

The Vancouver Canadians brought out their bats in a 13-1 victory over the Everett Aqua Sox. Thunder Bay, Ontario native Eric Brown won his fifth game in a dominating performance, going seven shutout innings and giving up only three hits and striking out nine batters. The offense chipped in with twelve hits including L.B. Dantzler’s second home run of the season but David Harris had the big day for the club with a four-for-five night, hitting two doubles, scoring a run and driving in two. DH Jordan Leyland also contributed a pair of hits and scored twice.

The GCL Blue Jays played a double header with the Braves after Monday’s game was suspended due to rain. They ended up splitting the two games, losing in the first 15-1 and shutting out the Braves 4-0 in the second.

In Game 1, the pitching couldn’t catch a break, giving up all fifteen runs as earned runs. Starter Francisco Diaz walked six in his two and two-thirds innings giving up five runs and Tyler Gonzalez gave up five runs in only one third of an inning on a hit and three walks after Sean Ratcliffe allowed all three inherited runners to score. Jimmy Cordero also gave up four runs in an inning and two thirds. The offense only managed three hits with Josh Almonte getting the only extra-base hit, a double.

In Game 2, the pitching staff turned it around, getting two great pitching performances in a 4-0 victory. Alejandro Solarte went the first four and a third innings, giving up only three hits and three walks while striking out four and Chris Rowley (an undrafted free agent out of Army) went two and two-thirds innings giving up three hits and a walk and striking out six. Josh Almonte continued to have a good day, going one for two with a home run and an outfield assist while Thomas “Boomer” Collins III hit a double, scored a run and drove one in.
