The Dunedin Blue Jays came up on the short end of the stick in a 4-3 loss to the Palm Beach Cardinals. Florida State League All-Star Jesse Hernandez only got through four innings giving up four hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out three. Reliever Luis Perez began his minor league rehab, coming back from Tommy John surgery by throwing two perfect innings for the D-Jays and striking out one. Light-hitting catcher Pierce Rankin hit his first home run of the season but is still hitting only .134 on the season. Shortstop Peter Mooney, left fielder Nick Baligod and DH Gabe Jacobo all had two hits each in the loss.

Lansing Lugnuts (28-34)

In another pitcher’s duel, the Lansing Lugnuts couldn’t get any offense going as the West Michigan White Caps defeated the Lugnuts 1-0 on Monday night. White Caps starter Jordan John was excellent, going eight shutout innings, pitching two-hit ball while striking out five. Lansing starter Javier Avendano went seven innings of his own and gave up only one run but it was unearned. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Avendano gave up two consecutive singles which were followed by a passed ball which allowed Jason King to score from third on a ground out to second base on the next batter.

Roster Notes: Daniel Norris was placed on the 7-day DL while LHP Colton Turner was assigned to Lansing from the Vancouver Canadians roster.
