Game Thread: Blue Jays (8-13) @ Orioles (12-8)

I really thought that with the NEW LIVE GAME THREAD we launched yesterday here at Jays Journal, that it would really have an impact on the game.  I mean, I REALLY ACTUALLY THOUGHT that the Toronto Blue Jays were going to win last night, because I knew this LIVE GAME THREAD would be a success.  Well, that was it… that was our last chance.  The season’s over.  Last night’s 4-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles was a heartbreaker.  This game is meaningless.  R.A. Dickey pitched well enough to win for 4 innings.  Unfortunately, a 4-run 2nd inning cost him the game.

Today the ball is in the hands of flame throwing and knee-buckling pitcher, Brandon Morrow (though it’s tough to make anybody break quite like Dickey broke Nate McClouth at 1st base last night.)  Morrow’s flame throwing ability seems to be a bit of concern since he was mostly throwing his fastball around 90-91 MPH in his last start.  It made even the tortoise say “Damn!  What’s wrong with this guy?” (If you don’t know the story of the Tortoise and the Hare, read a book will you!)  So I think we’re all looking for Morrow to flip the switch and get back to throwing the 97 MPH missiles with which we’re accustomed.

Speaking of things with which we’re accustomed, wouldn’t it be great if today’s the day the Jays bats get back on track!  The opportunity is there as the Orioles send RHP Josh Stinson to the mound.  Stinson has been a mostly career minor league player since 2006, making only 20 appearances (1 start) over the last 2 seasons.  He’s been very hittable at every pro level.  So essentially the Jays are facing a batting practice pitcher.  Let’s hope they treat Stinson as such and less like making him look like an All Star (a la Chris Tillman.)

So please feel free to comment below and hopefully enjoy the game with me… or feel free to shred me apart, forcing me to trap myself in a glass case of emotion.  Either way, it will be a great time for YOU!  If you can’t follow live because you have something better to do (YOU’RE NOT A REAL FAN!  Just kidding… but really… you’re not a real fan) direct the fury at me on Twitter (@JayOnJays)

Gotta love some day baseball to take in over my lunch break (and maybe sneak a peak every once in a while after that)

    • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

and just when I thought I couldn’t be any less productive at work…

    • Justin Jay

Great piece on Brandon Morrow! I almost hate taking over the Featured spot because of it. It was THAT good

      • Travis Bateman

Thanks! Loved working on it, Morrow is one of my favourite pitchers to watch.

    • Jay Blue

Agreed. Great article. Are we on the “Why we need to get Alan Ashby back” train yet?

  • Ben de la Durantaye

Just so long as we can avoid the sweep. Man, I seem to be saying that a lot lately.

    • Justin Jay

It’s the one thing they’ve been successful at avoiding… so far

    • Travis Bateman

The way the pitching has started to come around and with the talent in the line up I really think the Jays are on the precipice of a nice 8 wins in 10 games run…they’re just too talented not to put it together

  • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

good swing by Emilio, another unlucky 2013 Jays moment

  • http://twitter.com/travisb31 Travis Bateman

He got squeezed on what should have been Strike 3

  • http://twitter.com/travisb31 Travis Bateman

Gotta like JP staying hot, if only he could mix in something that wasn’t a strike out or homerun once in a while

    • Justin Jay

      A double would be nice

      • http://twitter.com/travisb31 Travis Bateman

Maybe the occasional walk or two

        • Justin Jay

          Walk? What’s that?

      • http://twitter.com/travisb31 Travis Bateman

You ask and you shall receive.

  • Justin Jay

RAJAIIIII!!! HOME RUN 3-1 Blue Jays!

  • Justin Jay

Still working out the kinks here

  • Kyle Franzoni

Sorry I’m late gentlemen. Missed all of the early action and came in right in time for another error by the Jays defense leading to a run.

  • http://twitter.com/travisb31 Travis Bateman

If nothing else, Edwin and Jose definitely lead the league in awesome bat flips.

Live by the dinger, die by the dinger.

  • Kyle Franzoni

Given the recent strength of opponents pitching, one would have to wonder why the offense has sputtered before today.

yo good thing I got rogers on demand game tomorrow only on sportsnet west and pacific? damn leafs hogging sportsnet ontario

only in Canada does a Toronto Maples Leafs vs. Florida Panthers game trump Blue Jays vs. Yankees…

    • http://twitter.com/travisb31 Travis Bateman

I’m a cable cutter, but luckily I have a Rogers cell phone so I can watch every game with Rogers On Demand, it’s a life saver.

      • Justin Jay

You guys sound like you should be doing a commercial for Rogers

        • http://twitter.com/travisb31 Travis Bateman

Haha I hate everything about my Rogers cellphone service…only thing keeping me around is the Jays feed I get for free (watching baseball for free on your cellphone in HD is the coolest.)

          • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

haha maybe they will throw us some of their many $$$

  • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

    Bautistaman!!!

  • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

haven’t caught the whole game but seems to be a bit more typical of what we expect of the Blue Jays, looks like Morrow is picking up heat on his fastball too which is great

  • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

uh oh… i better stop watching before the jays blow this lead

  • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

    Loup has got 2 go

  • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

probably could have taken 2nd standing my goodness

  • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

too many things just went wrong i don’t even know where to start

    • Justin Jay

      I do… Gibbons

      • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

as soon as he actually has to manage the game i just hold my breath… it sounds like he at least tried to tell Loup to look at who was in the on-deck circle before that triple

  • Kyle Franzoni

This would qualify as an ugly loss for the Blue Jays if they drop this game.

  • http://twitter.com/travisb31 Travis Bateman

    Sad face :(

  • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

    so clutch i love it

  • Kyle Franzoni

What a play by Rajai/Arencibia! That’s the spark we need to get the train rolling!

  • Kyle Franzoni

Kawasaki going hunting with foul balls again.

  • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

JJ workin’ some OT 4 JJ

  • Kyle Franzoni

    Now it’s Casey Janssen time.

  • Justin Jay

Man! Not gonna lie… kinda glad that one’s over. I have to go pick up my kid. Travis, I was getting ready to tag you in bro!

  • Ben de la Durantaye

Early game kept me away for this one (mostly) too. Just watched the rest of it. I’m glad the Jays got the win but that 6th run was given away on the walk. Oh well, a win is a win.

Love watching Janssen too. Every time he goes in I know it’s going to end well.

    • Kyle Franzoni

Sometimes, you have to win ugly to get things going in the right direction.
