(FIRST EVER) Game Thread: Blue Jays (8-12) @ Orioles (11-8)

Well this is it. If the Blue Jays can’t pull out the win tonight the season is obviously over, I mean it’s already April 23! You can’t come back from a hole like this with only 141 games to go in the season, it’s just not possible. I mean R.A. Dickey has shown he’s a National League wonder (just ignore that last start please), and there’s no way he can survive in the AL, it’s just not going to happen.

Although….if the Jays do manage to pull out the win tonight, #2 starter Brandon Morrow is taking the mound tomorrow, and if they manage to win that WE’RE BACK IN IT.

You know what? I’ve changed my mind (this is my Game Thread I can do what I want), R.A Dickey is going to pitch a gem tonight, followed by a dominating performance from the ever likeable Brandon Morrow tomorrow. You know what? I’m feeling a sweep this weekend of the Yankees too, I’M A PREDICTION MACHINE.

Join me in the comments to bask in the glory of my clairvoyance (or rub in the fact that I’m dumb and the Jays are scuffling along again). Not reading this live? Well you can just send your rage at me by way of the Twitter machine (@travisb31)

News & Notes

The Laff man is back! So there’s that…this is sure to cause some grumbles about contending teams not needing to tinker with their rosters this much, but really, this is just another attempt by Alex Anthopolous to exploit the waiver wire to add a little depth. Much ado about not a whole lot.

Things That Are Happening

I’ll be posting updates of what’s happening throughout the game below. Also if someone sends a tweet I deem to be funny  or pertinent enough to the conversation, I’ll embed it right in the post (because I can that’s why).

Lind batting second, huh? I’m okay with Melky moving down the lineup a bit more for more chance at RBIs, hopefully Lind can walk a bunch to make it worth it though..

    • Kyle Franzoni

With Lind’s recent infatuation with taking walk, or three or four, this could work out well for the Jays. Well, at least if Jose and EE get going…

  • Travis Bateman

I like the move too, if it doesn’t work out Gibby is the type of manager to switch it up again (kind of the anti-Cito in that regard)

    • Kyle Franzoni

      Anti-Cito sounds like a hacker cell…

      • cjohnson03

        Or a scrumptious Italian dish

  • Jay Blue

    Go Jays Go!

  • Kyle Franzoni

I love the fact that the new order, designed to see more pitches, saw all of 11 in the first inning. Way to make Gonzalez work.

    • Justin Jay

      Let me guess… Kawasaki 5, Lind 5, Jose 1?

      • Kyle Franzoni

        Kawasaki 2, Lind 5, Bautista 4 actually…go figure right?

  • http://jaysjournal.com/author/mcdougles Daniel G.

Dickey shares the same ankle-breaking ability as elite basketball players.
    Fact.

    • Travis Bateman

My roommate and I literally laughed out loud at the replay of McLouth trying to get back to the bag

  • djsxxn

Think its time to bat kawasaki ninth again, bonifacio is more valuable hitting first

    • Kyle Franzoni

Perhaps, as long as you don’t ask him to bunt…

    • Travis Bateman

That would be tough since Boni isn’t playing today…Kawasaki has been seeing a lot of pitches and working the count for the most part so I’d still leave him there for now (at least until Lawrie gets his timing back)

    • Justin Jay

Leadoff guy needs to walk. Kawasaki has been good with that lately. The GIDP stinks but you got to keep letting him try. He’s good for the top of the line-up and he’s better in the field than Boni, who’s been dreadful

    • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

I think you might have a point djsxxn

  • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

I just turned the game on but feel like I haven’t missed a thing this is great! Much better than Twitter where I have to sort through 1,000 posts

  • Justin Jay

    If he walks Flaherty…

  • Justin Jay

Might as well shut it off Mike… but, be sure to continue to check live thread updates brought to you by Travis Bateman!

  • Kyle Franzoni

I hear we have this Josh Thole kid at Triple-A who has experience catching such a pitch…hmmm…

    • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

I’d rather see him on the active roster than Blanco

  • Kyle Franzoni

My goodness, there has been a Colby Rasmus sighting…

  • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

Just found out I can sort these comments by newest first… game changer lol

  • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

what was the stat on how many games the jays have trailed in?

  • Justin Jay

Buck’s sayin it wrong. Here in the states, well, Maryland, it’s Ball-mo

  • Justin Jay

Aaron Lindy justifying that #2 spot! Hot schitck!

  • Kyle Franzoni

Gonzalez has a GO/AO ratio of 0.82 coming into tonight, yet keeps inducing ground-outs and timely double plays.

    • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

      maddening

  • Justin Jay

Are we leading the league in GIDPs yet? We gotta be close? This is freakin brutal!

    • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

      tied 4th AL so far

      • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

i have a link but it moderates if i try to post it

        • Justin Jay

Got the link… tack on 2 more

    • Kyle Franzoni

Nope, we’re sixth heading into tonight.

    • Kyle Franzoni

Izturis and Bautista tied for team lead with four apiece.

  • Justin Jay

Gibbons isn’t slurring words… I thought for sure he’d be shatfaced by now

  • Kyle Franzoni

Is Lawrie trying to catch up to J.P. and Colby in K’s?

  • Justin Jay

Whomever dug that Buck Martinez stat about Gonzalez out, deserves some kind of random award… or maybe belongs on Jeopady… geezus!

  • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

At this point the only person I’m giving the green light to is Bautista. Was that a first pitch pop-out?

  • Kyle Franzoni

Why can’t we develop players like Manny Machado?

    • Justin Jay

We tried… and then we gave em up for Dickey…

      • Justin Jay

All those guys we gave to the Marlins, BAAAHAHAHA!!! But losing d’Arnaud and Syndergaard… we’re going to regret that

  • Justin Jay

Heh… anybody else snicker when Martinez said “Dickey leaves a pair on”?

  • Justin Jay

This is not the point in the game where the Jays can be down. Orioles bullpen is unreal.

  • Justin Jay

OH! I thought Jose got ahold of that 1! Just a little early!

  • Justin Jay

Wow! This game turned around quick!

    • Travis Bateman

There’s something that much more sweet about a 2 out rally

      • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

you guys can thank me i bit the bullet and let me girlfriend have the tv… works every time ;)

        • Justin Jay

I feel the same way. I feel like I jinx this team when I watch them. It’s an awful feeling as a fan

          • Travis Bateman

They’re about 1-6 with me in attendance at the Dome…its driving me crazy haha

          • Justin Jay

We’re going to overhaul this staff…. geezus. I do have success when I see them at The Trop against the Rays. 1-4 in Boston

          • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

dang we have some kind of luck here… i was in attendance at the game a few years ago when it got so bad against Boston they had to put in Mike McCoy

          • Justin Jay

Was that in Toronto in May 2 years ago? That might have been the game I stopped being a Jays fan for a month. The game the Jays got destroyed in Toronto. I lost my freakin mind after that game. Trashed my hat and everything. Pissed

  • Justin Jay

One guy the Orioles couldn’t develop… Brian Matusz was suppose to be a stud starter. Couldn’t stay healthy. Couldn’t throw strikes at the MLB level. So stud bullpen guy. Lefties can’t hit him. Good luck Lind!

  • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

    melky got locked

  • Justin Jay

GET OFF YOUR KNEES UMP!! COME! ON!!!

    • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

gotta protect better with 2 strikes but yeah still outside

  • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

haven’t seen the whole game but is that melky’s 2nd K looking?

  • Justin Jay

    Rasmus Ks… He was due

  • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

well at least jays tried to make it interesting and scored a couple runs… bullpen looks legit other than Loup I don’t know how long he will be around for

  • http://twitter.com/Wrayzerblade Michael Wray

Thanks for the coverage Mr. Bateman!
