Mandatory Credit: Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY SportsIf you’ve been a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays for about a nanosecond you’ve probably already heard that they won the World Series in back to back years in 1992 and 1993. It’s impossible to not know about that because any Blue Jays fan old enough to remember it is obsessed with those years and can’t stop talking about it. From listening to them you would think it all happened recently not 20 years ago.

Every Blue Jay teams since those years are compared to those teams. I’m not even sure that the Jays going on a Yankee type playoff run starting in 2013 would be enough to get people to finally shut up about it.

Blue Jays fans like me that are too young to remember 1992 and 1993 have no idea what the playoffs feel like. It makes people’s obsession with those teams even that more annoying because you have nothing to compare it to. It also makes your time spent being a Jays fan feel pointless because it’s like have the last 20 years really been that boring that people can’t stop talking about Jays teams from that long ago.

If you’re too young to remember 1992 and 1993 the upcoming season feels very special. So special in fact it makes the 1992 and 1993 obsession make sense.

If the Blue Jays were to just stay in the playoff race until the very end of September in 2013 and 2014 without even making the playoffs it would be memorable. Let alone if they were to win the World Series in back to back years.

If the 2013 Jays are the team we think they are and they followed that up with 20 years of mediocrity I’d probably be obsessed with the 2013 team for the rest of my life to. Let’s just hope we finally give those 1992, 1993 fanatics something new to talk about so they can at least finally talk about 1992 and 1993 like its history and not like it happened 2 weeks ago.
