Just listening to the comments tells me that if Thames was only hitting 60 pts higher than Bautista there is no doubt he would be in minors.

Please tell me how a 818 OPS and 310 average defines sturggling ? Thames has had almost no oppurtunites for RBI’s the entire year.

Thames isn’t the reason for the woes, he may be the scapegoat. Hey I got an idea, bring up Snyder and sit Bautista; at least move him down the lineup till he gets going. Psst— You might want to try a bunt once in awhile.

If i were the one to make the decisions and held the purse strings, I’d play Thames regularly up to the deadline. If he has some value, and Snider is doing everything asked of him, I’d be more than happy to see a trade with Snider coming up. In the off-season I’d evaluate Rasmus and Snider and if the Orioles don’t lock-up Adam Jones, I’d go with Jones and either Rasmus or Snider (or Thames I suppose) in 2013.

There are a couple teams already who could use a good hitting servicable left-fielder. As the season progresses, a consistent Thames with a good number of at bats behind him will have enough value to get a nice little return.

@Rockshu I don’t think Thames had any value for a trade, and that may well be part of the impetus here as well. It does depend on whether they think Thames or Snider is the better long term player, and there’s reason to believe either way.I think the motivations COULD play into each other: They don’t want to jerk around Snider, and they want to try and establish some trade value for Thames.

Well this is Snider’s final option year, so they’re not going to be able to send him down to Triple-A next season whether they want to or not.

If the team wanted Snider as the longterm LF, and didn’t want him looking over his shoulder, they could have simply traded Thames at the end of the spring. The fact that they didn’t really puzzles me about their thinking on the situation.
