@IPP_Ben High school stats are practically useless in the eyes of scouts and other talent evaluators, yes, but I agree with you, his offensive potential as a position player must have been intriguing. In fact, I remember hearing that Biggs could very well have been drafted and proceeded through the minors as a position player.

@Mylegacy1 Thanks "Mylegacy1" (what happened there, login issues?) for confirming the back injury part from Sickels' prospect guide. I knew there was an injury and remembered reading that it was his back but wasn't sure. Sickels is absolutely right that Biggs would have drawn first round consideration the next time he was eligible in 2014.

I've heard that the Jays didn't expect Biggs to fall to the eighth round and were surprised they snagged him. Explains the extra-lucrative counter-offer on their part after he initially decided to go to U of L.

With a name like that he's gotta be good! Curious to see teams ignoring an OPS of almost 1.5, even if it was for a short period. 12 home runs in 99 ABs is impressive no matter what level you're at.

Great report Jared! Another stud in the making!

John Sickels in his 2012 Prospect Book says Mark's early season struggles were because of a back injury. John says he signed for $600,000 and if he had gone to college he'd be an early favorite for the 1st round in 2014.

Another "Atta go Jays" moment. His offensive stats were pretty fantastic! He must be some kind of pitching prospect for teams to choose his pitching over what is obviously a pretty fantastic bat too. Clearly however, Mark must feel his future lies in his arm or he'd have gone to college as a two way player to see how both developed.
