So called hired guns don't always work out but I think there's a bit of a void created by losing Halladay and then Marcum that Oswalt would have helped fill, even if just for a year. One of those three wouldn't have made the Jays anyways, one would have made the Jays even if Oswalt signed here and the third could have worked out of the Pen for a year (improving that in the process). If the Jays are closer then some think they are and he pushes them into playoff contention great (the long-run benefitt being that Toronto becomes a more attractive destination going forward, the shortrun benefit is obvious)!
