		<description>Yes, I think Oswalt would have helped long term as a veteran presence. So called hired guns don&#039;t always work out but I think there&#039;s a bit of a void created by losing Halladay and then Marcum that Oswalt would have helped fill, even if just for a year.</description>

Yes, I think it would have benefitted the Jays more in the long-run. 

One of those three wouldn&#039;t have made the Jays anyways, one would have made the Jays even if Oswalt signed here and the third could have worked out of the Pen for a year (improving that in the process).

If the Jays are closer then some think they are and he pushes them into playoff contention great (the long-run benefitt being that Toronto becomes a more attractive destination going forward, the shortrun benefit is obvious)! If they aren&#039;t then he&#039;d be a valuable chip at the trade deadline to trade for a future piece of the puzzle.</description>
