I imagine his asking price is pretty high. He made $19.3 million last year, he's only 34, and I am sure a player of his calibre would ask for 6+ years and a lot of money. His agents may also be laying low until Fielder signs, because then the teams that missed out on Fielder will compete for Beltran.

If the Jays are looking for a run at playoff contention starting in 2012, then the answer is yes to Beltran. For 2012 he plays LF, while AA can trade both Thames and Snider for other pieces. In 2013 he becomes the DH and Rasmus is either traded or slides over to LF to make room for Gose in CF. Thames and Snider as key pieces in any trade discussions will bring back alot of talent, remember Thames was seen as a 1st or 2nd round talent in the draft until an injury pushed him to the back of the draft where jp picked him up. Beltran would fit in nicely in the lineup and give Farrell alot of flexibilty. To have Beltran as a 1 year answer in LF and 3 years as DH would be a great fit for the Jays if he can be had at 9-10 mill, AA take it and run. If the Jays arn't looking to contend in 2012 and forward, the answer is no. Think about a line up of Escobar, Lawrie, Bautista, Beltran, Rasmus, Arencibia, Lind, EE, Johnson. Looks like not that bad of a lineup. If Beltran is signed a bigger move could be in the mix to acquire another bat and obviously more pitching.

One thing to remember... the Jays are linked to literally every available player, cause AA will always call and inquire what it would take to get a player. I can't see us bringing in a veteran like Beltran at this point, AA has said numerous times that we won't sign any high paid veterans until we're right on the verge of competing for the division, and I don't think we're quite there yet.

However, I wouldn't be against bringing in Beltran and making him the every day DH. Then use Edwin as more of a backup DH/1B/3B/LF/Bat off the bench. You could slot Beltran into the cleanup spot, that would certainly improve the team. Still though... unlikely.

I would love to hear why the Jays are interested in Beltran. He would clog up the Outfielder even more than Ben Francisco does. He would halt the progression of Thames and Snider in left, disallow KJ from playing left as well as anyone younger prospects if he is here for a couple years.
