Jays Jots: “Reactions to the New Jays Uniforms” Edition

After losing reliever Cole Kimball via waivers to the Washington Nationals–the team that he was acquired from just days earlier–the Blue Jays re-acquired catcher Brian Jeroloman in similar fashion off waivers just days after he was claimed by the Pirates.

Kevin Kaduk cited the much-needed update in the Jays’ uniform: “No more pumped-up cartoon blue jays, no more angry birds better suited for a football helmet. No overbearing block lettering across the front of the jersey (sleeveless or otherwise) that was sure to look dated one or two years later.”

Chris Creamer, owner of SportsLogos.Net, says that he has never witnessed “such an overwhelmingly positive response to a team unveiling their new branding” in his 15 years of running the site.

The folks over at BBB conducted a poll on the new jerseys, and over 1500 of almost 1900 voters voted that they are great, with another 200 voting that they’re at least better than the black.

Ian over BJH admits that he was a bit confused when the new logo leaked in September, but feels that the new uniforms not only look fantastic, but that they’ll withstand the test of time a lot easier than other designs.

In an article for insider members, ESPN’s Buster Olney gave the new Jays threads a thumbs up.

In another poll, this time on CBC.ca, over 87 percent of the 2600-plus voters voted that they like the new look. For some reason, CBC included an “I’m not interested in baseball” option in the poll that garnered a whopping 63 votes.

A look at the five logos the Jays have used over the years, side-by-side. Unsurprisingly, 52% of the voters in the poll voted the 2012 logo the best, with another 27% voting the initial logo from 1977.
