@Aircool Thanks for the comment Aircool. I definitely agree with you that the Jays are an up and coming team, but I don't think they're as far away as some people might suggest. Initially it was the 2012 season that was always floated around as to "when they were going to contend", but it appears to be more like 2013 after prospects have another year to mature, another draft has gone by, and a few question marks at the Major League level are addressed.

That being said, this offseason is going to be huge for the Jays and could very well accelerate their chances of contending next season with the right moves.

Yeah, there have been a lot of published reports about Big Papi wanting to stay in Boston despite the drama. This Boston Herald report was interesting, though, even if I doubt the Jays would give up a pick to sign Ortiz:

Basically Ortiz came out this morning or last night begging the red sox to keep him saying he has a lot of basebal in him and that if the red sox signed him now they wouldn't regret it. So much for him wanting out of the "drama" - it's clear he really wants to stay in Boston.

Personally, I would not pursue Ortiz a position with the Blue Jays, It makes no sense at all to me. Ortiz is obviously a great player but for some of the people below i have to tell you get real. The Blue Jays are a great upcoming team, but the key word is upcoming. There are too many developing young talents both in the Major League team and the Minors to bother pursuing a man like Ortiz at this point in time. To be honest I love the potential that the Blue Jays show but they aren't making post season for at least 3 years, there is no doubt about that you guys are forgetting they only went .500 this season in the AL East, .500 isn't bad in other divisions but in the AL East that is never higher than 3rd, and is probably 4th which is what they finished. Ortiz doesn't have long left in his prestigious career before his skill plummets due to his age, and we would have to pray Bautista can keep it up. Although we have seen it was no fluke the 52 Bautista hit in 2010, there is no guarantee he will hit more than 40 home runs 4 years from now or even 30. To basically summarize the Blue Jays have too many upcoming players and great prospects to think about the next two seasons, they will be a force by waiting for their talent to shine, not to go out and buy veterans who will just burn out when they are heating up.
