Dustin McGowan has always had great stuff, but he is yet to put up great statistics at the Major League level:
The career stats aren’t pretty. However, they were put up by a very young pitcher (majority of innings at 25-26 years old), who had serious injury issues.
McGowan throws a hard fastball (reached 96 Mph on 6/9/11), a power curve, a nasty slider and a change up. He has the repertoire of a solid starter, but his durability-or lack there of- may prevent him from regaining that position. This makes his start today, and any subsequent appearances this September very interesting. What does McGowan have left after spending over three years on the shelf? Do you think he will eventually be moved to the bullpen and possibly even the closer role?
