No doubt pro ball is better for his development.. He would be in a pitch count in minors ... I think I read where Tim Corbin of Vandy threw Sonny Gray 155 pitches in college world series.. College coaches abuse good arms.. The kid I dont think really wanted to sign

If they want a defensive whiz at SS .. Then just keep Johnny Mac and let him play there.. He is a lot cheaper than the 10 million they gave Hech... Also if Rasmus does move to the corner then his value is not very good. We dont need a guy hitting 14 homeruns out of LF @Mylegacy

@BlueJaysAD It really doesn't matter what round the Jays grabbed him in, they offered him Sandwich round money. So what he's essentially saying is that he'll land in the 1st round the next time around. If I could teach him a little something about the value of money, I could point out that the interest rate he'd get on $800,000 would likely land him above $950,000 at 5% by the time the 2014 draft came around. So, that's the mark he needs to beat, and meanwhile, the outfielders from the 2011 in the system where he is chosen (the team that drafts him in 2014) will all have 3 years of pro experience and will likely be ready to make the jump to the Majors (if they're any good). Instead of being a part of that group and getting his arbitration clock started early, he'll likely spend at least 1 season in the minors....maybe 2. How much money will that cost him in terms of getting through arbitration and finally getting to become a FA some day? A whole lot more than the difference between his 950K (FV in 2014) and the bonus he'll likely get in 2014!!!

It's not a good financial move at all, and I don't even know if it's a good baseball move. Is he better off learning as a pro, or learning as a College kid? I don't think anyone can say for certain, but I do know that an assured $800,000 is a whole lot better than an "I hope I don't get injured and improve my game by 2014" amount.

@JoseLopes If true, he's going to be pissed when all of the ex-Boston execs in San Diego grab him with one of the top 5 picks in 2014. Or, maybe the Jays pick him again and offers him $900,000. Either way, he's very unlikely to become a Red Sox pitcher as they're not likely to pick high enough to grab him.

I think Beede had a pre-draft agreement with the Red Sox. There's no way he would accept to go to Toronto, to play against its beloved club.

This Red Sox nation thing has gone to the head of these Massachussets baseball-pro wannabe kids. He will be sorry in a few years, but he has been warned.
