@DerekNakluski The best way I can explain what I meant is by using this analogy: it was like he was throwing darts. When you throw darts, they can be high, they can be low, but once you release the dart it stays on that line towards the board. The same was true with Alvarez last night. You're right, he got great downwards movement on his pitches, but nothing "slid" in or out....

What that resulted in was hitters getting a better feel for what to expect the next time through the lineup, and it explains why he was hit harder as the game wore on. Once they adjusted to his style of pitching, all they had to do what get the timing right (fastball or change), and guess whether he was going high or low in the zone and inside or outside. At no point did they get fooled by something that started towards the corner and slid right out of the strike zone.

Does that help?

I don't know what game you were watching last night Mat, but I think Alvarez has great movement on his fastball, I think making it hard to hit coming in at the mid 90's. Although I think he will beneifit a great deal when he gets that 3rd pitch down. He was also throwing strikes in the bottom of the zone. As for line of site maybe you can explain that a little more.
