@He's Done it Again!@MattProk I can't see them passing up his Type B FA status, particularly after dealing 2 relievers who would also have been Type Bs. With d'Arnaud proving to be the absolute best catcher in all of the major leagues right now, I can't see the Jays keep Molina around to block him. Sadly, I believe his time in Toronto will come to an end before the 2012 season kicks off.

a few comments and observations from fri. night's game. one, lawrie's plate presence is very good . he looks like a vet out there. i'm hoping that his play in the field can be chalked up to nerves with it being his debut and having his family in the stands. secondly, is there anybody besides farrell and walton who still believe rausch should be on the team? this guy is horrible!! and lastly just my opinion on who should be the pitchers on next years team. starters : romero, morrow, cecil, mcgowan, and drabek/alvarez/carrena. bullpen : janssen, camp, mills, t. miller, perez, francisco (only as a set up man) and litsch. now as far as closer goes, i think in house options are (and i may be reaching , but they are better than what the jays have now) 1.perez (doesn't walk many, good stuff and appears to have the mental make-up for the job) 2.cecil (i believe i read that he closed in college or the minors) and 3. my choice......alan farina! this guy has been solid in aa (before the neck injury) and the jays obviously like him a lot because he is on the 40 man roster.

@mathesond There was some hyperbole in that statement, but maybe you missed the point: we heard that Travis Snider was the 6th best prospect in America according to BA, but when he showed up, it didn't look so. I'm not passing myself off as an eye for talent, i'm just saying for those of us who only know about Lawrie through box scored and manager interviews, etc., it makes a big diffirence to see him with your own eyes. I hope you don't have money at stake on my gut feelings!

@MattProk I'm just glad it will only take 3-4 at bats for you to make the definitive call on whether he will be a bust or a legitimate major league player.

@MattProk Well put, however unless there is an outrageous deal in order for either a top notch closer or potential (and young) 2-3 starter, I would like to take my chances with Snider for another year. He is eager to learn, he has passion ( ie. broke the bat in two again on a pop up) and raw raw raw hitting talent. The guy is barely 20 years old and has had success in the big leagues, lets not forget that. Go Blue Jays and there farm system!

Hey Mat, do you have any incite to what may happen with Jose Molina? That two run triple last night was another example of clutch baseball by the veteran! Do they Jays hang onto him for another round of Spring Training?

@MattProk I'm not certain if Aaron Hill came up with it, but he's the first person from the Jays organization to refer to Snider as The Franchise.

Snider went down because this is the last year he has options to the minors. Plus, now he realizes his future is definitely on the line if Thames can turn things around, that could motivate him to listen and concentrate... We've got a lot of young players with streaky mentalities, when they're down they're really down - when they're up they're really up... Snider/Rasmus/Thames/Arencibia/Potentially Lawrie/At times Adam Lind... If those guys can ever fire on all cylinders for the same season it has championship potential.. As for Snider in AAA, I like it.. He needs to become a better player overall, I'm also not as high on his defence as a lot of people seem to be these days. Also not as low on Thames as a lot of people seem to be... Snider has the raw power to do big things, but not sure if he has the hitter's package and right mentality, if he does he needs to figure it out fast, cause the Jays want to win soon and talent is knocking in the outfield (Thames, Gose, Loewen and in deep minors).

I look at this one way: what my eyes see. My eyes saw Snider taking Vernon Wells-like swings; my eyes saw a powerful debut in Arencibia; my eyes saw loads of potential (but kind of a flat fastball) in Drabek.....and i didn't get to see Rasmus.Once Lawrie steps into the batting box 3-4 times tonight, i will be able to tell if this guy is legit, a player with great untapped potential (Snider), or a bust. I think he will be legit from the get-go, and i also expect his defense to be above-average..On the flip side, i do wonder why Snider went down instead of Eric Thames. This really tells me a lot more about what the org. thinks about Thames than anything else. The demotion of Snider isn't that big of a deal, as i believe his development was screwed up anyways, and at best, might follow the career path of Alex Gordon. But i do wish they could have sold high on him, and still wish that they can. When you don't play a premium position, and your defense is just average, you better be swinging a hell-of-a-bat. And there are only a few who can actually be labelled good-great hitters in the league. Snider, imo, will never realize the absolutely insane 'The Franchise' label some douche came up with.
