Please shed some light on the playing time of Juan Rivera?

For a team that prides itself on character, hard work and overall team unity, there seems to be a glaring whole in the 5-6 hole consistently occupied by Juan Rivera. Game 2 against the LAA was a perfect example of some guys clearly struggling both in the field and at the plate. Edwin and Snider both had plenty of opportunities to provide big base hits and shut down the opposing team's offense with somewhat routine defensive plays. Clearly dejected on the field and in the dug out, Edwin did all he could to beat out a slow chopper to 3rd base to score the go ahead run with two outs. We all know what happened there after. Travis Snider dug in to steal two bases to get himself into scoring position, a guy who is not notorious base stealer but clearly wanted it bad! After a couple of misplays in the field he knew he had to contribute elsewhere.

Anybody who has seen Juan Rivera at the ball park either in spring training or at the Rogers center since opening day has seen a completely disinterested 5 mil/yr player. He looks sloppy on the field, with his top button of the blue jays jersey undone, showing zero hustle running to first base and providing the team with a near .100BA. In my opinion the Blue Jays are taking a giant step backwards with this guy. Sure he gets the odd BB but seriously that just means he doesn't swing the bat. The Blue Jays ad campaigns have revolved around team heart, determination and pride. Rivera does not demonstrate to me, any of these characteristics. Contract aside, going from a guy like Vernon Wells who plays hard night in night out to this chump is a disgrace. Hopefully with Corey Patterson on the mend that is Rivera's ticket out of town because he is a plague to this young, determined, enthusiastic ball club.

If the jays can put Alex Rios on waivers, surely this is a no brainer.

How much longer does Jays Journal give Juan Rivera?
